Model experiment of upward leaders-shielding effects of tall objects
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1990Discharges originating from laboratory upward leaders are studied experimentally with a configuration consisting of two parallel vertical rods at ground and an elevated plane. The flashover probability of each rod, the effect of gap configuration on that probability, and the shielding effect of the taller rod on the smaller one are investigated ...

Special case of lightning strike to Tall Objects on Ground
2010 30th International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2010Analysis of lightning strike to Tall Grounded Objects (TGOs) is of practical importance. Actual measurements on TGOs have shown the presence of reflected current waves originating from either ends of TGO. With regard to the channel dynamics for these waves, there seems to be some uncertainties like: (i) will there be any reflection when these waves ...

Some field parameters of return strokes in upward lightning from tall objects
2016 33rd International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2016In this paper we show an analysis regarding the Peak-to-Zero (PTZ) time, the rise time, and the peak current for strokes to tall objects. It was previously shown that field pulses radiated by return strokes to the Gaisberg Tower (GBT) exhibit a smaller PTZ time than natural CG strokes [1].

Calculation of electromagnetic fields in free space when lightning strikes a tall object
2013 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XII SIPDA), 2013We calculate vertical electric field and azimuthal magnetic field at different elevation angles and distances associated with lightning strikes a tall object. Simple and exact expressions for electromagnetic fields are derived when the current reflection coefficient at tall object top is zero and return stroke propagation speed in the lightning channel

A strategy for transporting tall objects with a swarm of miniature mobile robots
2013 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2013This paper proposes a strategy for transporting a tall, and potentially heavy, object to a goal using a large number of miniature mobile robots. The robots move the object by pushing it. The direction in which the object moves is controlled by the way in which the robots distribute themselves around its perimeter - if the robots dynamically reallocate ...

International Review of Electrical Engineering (IREE), 2021
In this paper, a study about lightning electromagnetic radiation in a complex geometry is presented. Indeed, it is about examining the effect of a vertically stratified ground presence on the electromagnetic field generated by lightning strikes to a tall object (tower), using the three dimension Finite Difference Time-Domain (3D-FDTD) method. The space-
