Dental Homologies and Possible Relationships of Recent Talpidae
Journal of Mammalogy, 1971A dental homologization among living moles of the family Talpidae is presented, utilizing, in as far as possible, the basic premise that the normally unreplaced antemolar possessed by many placentals always occupies the ancestral eutherian first premolar position.

Abstract Survey of the type of the Miocene Talpidae of Europe results in the allocation of several of the types to new or different genera. Three genera and one species previously referred to the family do not belong there. The diversity of Miocene talpids indicates an influx of generic stocks into Western Europe in the early Miocene, probably from ...

Eadiea neurotriehus , n. sp. is described and compared with the related species E. brevihamata from Talpa europaea . It differs (among females) from all other species of Eadiea except E. brevihamata in having the combination of characters: the setae sc i short and subequal to v i and also the trochanter setae peglike and striated. It is smaller than E.

A superspecific system of the genus Desmana Giuld. is tentatively proposed on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of new palaeontological material obtained during two last decades for a number of Neogene-Anthropogene sites in Western and Eastern Europe.

Phylogenetic relationships within the family Talpidae (Mammalia: Insectivora)
Journal of Zoology, 2004AbstractThe phylogenetic relationships within the family Talpidae (Mammalia, Insectivora) were inferred from parsimonious analysis of 55 morphological characters, which were collected from 43 skulls of 22 species, and which included all of the extant genera in the current taxonomy of the Talpidae. Two equally parsimonious cladograms were obtained.

Ectoparasites from Seven Species of North American Moles (Insectivora: Talpidae)
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1979Representatives of all species of North American moles were examined for ectoparasites. One louse, 6 flea, 1 beetle, 1 tick and 6 mite species were collected from moles at numerous localities throughout North America. There are 18 new host records represented in this collection.

The helminth community of Talpa romana (Thomas, 1902) (Insectivora, Talpidae) in southern Italy
Parasitology Research, 2002The helminth parasite community of Talpa romana in Calabria (southern Italy ) was studied. The helminth fauna comprised six species: Ityogonimus ocreatus (Goeze 1782), Staphylocistis bacillaris (Goeze 1782), Capillaria talpae (Siebold 1850), Parastrongyloides winchesi (Morgan 1928), Spirura talpae (Gmelin 1790), and Tricholinstowia linstowi (Travassos ...

Analysis of dental anomalies in the Siberian mole, Talpa altaica (Insectivora, Talpidae)
Archives of Oral Biology, 2006We re-examined tooth variation in specimens of the Siberian mole, Talpa altaica, from the collection of the Siberian Zoological Museum and discuss the mechanisms of dental evolution. The number of teeth counted in 1789 specimens ranged from 34 to 47, and supernumerary, absent, and connate teeth were observed.
