Phytochemical diversity of naturally regenerated plants in a biodiversity enrichment experiment

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 3, March 2026.
Tree islands established within an industrial oil palm plantation promoted the recovery of phytochemical diversity through natural regeneration. Ten years after planting, untargeted metabolomics of 76 regenerating woody species detected 27,122 phytochemical features, including many novel compounds. Larger islands supported higher woody species richness

Amphibians' Expansion to Record Elevations Influences Chytrid (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) Infection Dynamics

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
Peruvian frogs underwent a climate‐driven range expansion into deglaciating mountains, exposing themselves and their fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) to challenging new thermal environments. Bd has dispersed extensively in these new habitats, and elevation may mediate the apparent sublethal impacts of infection for frogs.

Effects of Fruiting Neighborhood, Plant Traits, and Fruit Traits on Frugivore Visitation and Fruit Removal for an Understory Palm

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
We simultaneously evaluated how the fruiting neighborhood, defined as the number of fruiting palms in a 35 m radius, and relevant traits at the level of individual plants (e.g., height, crop size) and fruits (e.g., fruit and seed size, water, and sucrose content) influenced frugivore visitation and the number of fruits removed per visit in a common ...
