Optimization of Residual Hexane in Edible Oils Analysis Using Static Headspace Gas Chromatography. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Anal Chem, 2021
This study aims to determine the residual hexane in four edible oils in Malaysia using a simple, rapid, and automated method in order to improve the efficiency and productivity of the analysis. Gas chromatography (GC/FID) equipped with a headspace autosampler (HS‐20) was used to perform the analysis.

Bornean orangutan Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus population estimate within and around Danau Sentarum National Park, Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 5, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Of the three sub‐species of Critically Endangered Bornean orangutans, Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus has the smallest population size. Our study found considerable decline of the populations, from 807 individuals in 1996 to 202 in 2010–2014 within the boundaries of Danau Sentarum National Park; and from 1578 to 71 in the outer boundaries of the Park.

Sundaic elephants prefer habitats on the periphery of protected areas

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 12, Page 2947-2958, December 2022., 2022
Our analysis suggests that conservation strategies need to acknowledge that the long‐term survival of Asian elephants in the Sundaic region relies on our capacity to promote human–elephant coexistence at the boundaries of PAs. We advocate that Asian elephant conservation strategies should be based on the following three key points: (1) large PAs with ...

Recent estimate of Asian elephants in Borneo reveals a smaller population

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2022, Issue 2, March 2022., 2022
Asian elephants occurring in northern Borneo form a geographically isolated and genetically distinct population. Of this, the subpopulation of Central Sabah holds the greatest opportunity for long‐term survival, due to a relatively large population size and occurrence over a vast, contiguous and protected habitat. We surveyed this subpopulation in 2015

The Effect of Built‐Up Area Density and Vegetation Density on Surface Temperature in Banjarmasin City

open access: yesInternational Journal of Forestry Research, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Banjarmasin City continues to develop rapidly. Malls and settlements are the newly built‐up area that has reduced vegetation cover leading to changes in surface temperature in Banjarmasin City. Analysis of temperature changes is needed to determine the effect of increasing built‐up areas and decreasing vegetation cover.
