Food Habits of Wild Silky Anteaters ( Cyclopes didactylus ) of São Luis do Maranhão, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
None of the four extant anteater species is currently considered to be threatened with extinction (IUCN, 2007; Aguiar and Fonseca, 2008). However, the destruction and fragmentation of their habitat is advancing swiftly throughout their common ...

Large‐scale atmospheric variability entails differential modes of seasonal tree growth in the Mediterranean Basin

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 9, Page 2652-2667, September 2025.
This work demonstrates the control of teleconnections on seasonal tree growth through local climate across the Mediterranean basin. Despite the constant link between the East Atlantic Pattern and temperature, synergies among teleconnections point to an east–west dipole in tree seasonal growth, driven by precipitation variability.

Foxes as pets: Case study of the Fuegian Dog and its relationship to extinct Indigenous cultures

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 327, Issue 1, Page 5-18, September 2025.
This is a rare glimpse into the historical past of the zoologically mysterious Fuegian Dog that lived with early Holocene Indigenous groups on the island of Tierra del Fuego. Records of the animal's appearance and behavior kept by early explorers, artists and scientists who travelled to the tip of South America, plus the genetics and archaeological ...

GEOLOGICAL RESEARCHES FOR ENDOGENOUS NATURAL HAZARDS OF THE TAMAN PENINSULA

Chromosomal Inversion Associated With Diet Differences in Common Quails Sharing Wintering Grounds

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
A large chromosomal inversion in common quails (Coturnix coturnix) is associated with phenotypic traits. In a wintering population in southern Spain, we found all three karyotypes coexisting but showing differences in migratory behavior and diet, as exemplified by the isotopic signature.

Threatened synanthropes depend on intact forests: a critical evaluation of Moore et al. (2023)

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 4, Page 1444-1451, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Synanthropes are known for their remarkable adaptability to coexist with humans, yet increased visibility exposes them to significant threats, such as hunting or conflict over resources. Moore et al.'s review ‘The rise of hyperabundant native generalists threatens both humans and nature’ (https://doi.org/10.1111/brv.12985) explores ...

Conservation‐focused mapping of avian migratory routes using a pan‐European automated telemetry network

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 4, August 2025.
Abstract Accelerated biodiversity loss has destabilized functional links within and between ecosystems. Species that cross different ecosystems during migration between breeding and nonbreeding sites are particularly sensitive to global change because they are exposed to various, often ecosystem‐specific, threats.
