Leadless pacemaker implantation in real‐world clinical practice: An Italian survey promoted by the AIAC (Italian Association of Arrhythmology and Cardiac Pacing)

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 41, Issue 2, April 2025.
A survey of Italian electrophysiologists identified key reasons for choosing L‐PM: anatomic contraindications, high infection risk, and prior lead extraction. Barriers include cost, lack of atrial pacing, and extraction tools. The use of L‐PM implantation is currently limited to selected patients of older age.

A new scoring system to predict the risk of late recurrence in extended follow‐up after atrial fibrillation catheter ablation: APCEL score

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 41, Issue 2, April 2025.
We aimed to create a new scoring system in extended follow‐up after atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. The APCEL score (early recurrence: 3 points, AF duration >19 months: 2 points, persistent AF, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and left atrial volume index >31 mL/m2: 1 point) had a good predictive ability for late recurrence after AF ablation ...

Evaluation of Electrospun Poly‐4‐Hydroxybutyrate as Biofunctional and Degradable Scaffold for Pelvic Organ Prolapse in a Vaginal Sheep Model

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, Volume 25, Issue 4, April 2025.
This study of a vaginal sheep model shows improved host response in vaginal tissue and enhanced biomechanical properties of electrospun absorbable poly‐4‐hydroxybutyrate (ES‐P4HB) scaffolds for pelvic organ prolapse surgery. It presents improvement of tissue integration and healing by the extracellular matrix (ECM)‐mimicking structure of ES‐P4HB with ...

Systemic Inflammatory Diseases in Children With Sickle Cell Disease: A French Multicenter Observational Study on Diagnostic and Therapeutic Issues

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, Volume 72, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Systemic inflammatory diseases (SIDs) have been reported in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD), but clinical data in children are scarce. Objectives To identify clinical and laboratory features at diagnosis of SID in children with SCD and to describe their evolution.

Benefits of GNSS Local Observations Compared to Global Weather‐Based Models for InSAR Tropospheric Corrections Over Tropical Volcanoes: Case Studies of Piton De La Fournaise and Merapi

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract From repeat‐pass interferometry, tropospheric signals often prevent the detection of ground deformation signals. In recent years, tropospheric corrections derived from global weather‐based models have been implemented in several InSAR processing chains.

Early left ventricular unloading during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in cardiogenic shock: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 49, Issue 4, Page 556-570, April 2025.
Abstract Background Left ventricular (LV) unloading is a crucial intervention to decrease the harmful consequences of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) on hemodynamic status in cardiogenic shock (CS) patients. However, a lingering question preoccupies experts: Should we intervene early or wait until clinical deterioration caused by increasing ...

Perioperative Point‐of‐Care Ultrasound Utilization in Abdominal Organ Transplantation. Part I: Preoperative and Intraoperative Care

open access: yesClinical Transplantation, Volume 39, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT In this Society for the Advancement of Transplant Anesthesia (SATA) white paper, experts in abdominal transplant anesthesia and critical care reviewed the current literature and practice behaviors to create a comprehensive review of the utilization of point‐of‐care ultrasound (PoCUS) in abdominal organ transplantation (AOT) and to provide ...

Transthoracic Echocardiography for Central Venous Catheter Tip Positioning in Children: An Observational Study Using Transesophageal Echocardiography as Reference Method

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, Volume 35, Issue 4, Page 310-315, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Children who need to have major surgery or are critically ill often require the insertion of a central venous catheter (CVC). To avoid serious complications, it is important to correctly position the CVC tip at the junction of the distal superior vena cava and the right atrium (cavoatrial junction).
