Biopsy of Iris and Anterior Chamber Tumours: Fine Needle, Minimally Invasive and Excision Techniques ‐ Review

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Several benign, inflammatory and malignant lesions can present as iris or anterior chamber masses, including iris naevi, cysts, adenomas, leiomyomas, nodules, vascular tumours, melanomas, metastases, as well as iris and pigment epithelium adenocarcinomas. Fortunately, benign iris lesions are much more common than malignant tumours and many can

An effective method to reduce ischemia time during total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2012
Because of controversy regarding timing of tourniquet release during total knee arthroplasty (TKA), a closed arthrotomy as a tamponade for effective hemostasis was used to save ischemia time.

Hemopericardium and Cardiac Tamponade in a Patient with an Elevated International Normalized Ratio

open access: yesWestern Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2009
This case report describes a 54-year-old male on warfarin for atrial fibrillation who presented to the emergency department (ED) following a syncopal episode with persistent hypotension.

Acute Cardiac Tamponade after Left Sided Premature Ventricular Contraction Ablation

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Emergencies, 2016
Introduction: Premature ventricular complex (PVC) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, which in some circumstances can lead to syncope, arrhythmia-induced cardiomyopathy and sudden death.

Contemporary echocardiographic assessment of pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade

open access: yesЕвразийский Кардиологический Журнал
The aim: the aim of this review is to address the challenges in echocardiographic diagnosis of pericardial effusion, which can potentially lead to a lifethreatening condition called cardiac tamponade.

Retrospective case series of two‐stage folded paramedian forehead flap nasal reconstruction without cartilage grafts

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, EarlyView.
Summary Background Full‐thickness nasal defects of the tip, soft triangle, and ala are commonly reconstructed using a paramedian forehead flap with cartilage grafts or an epithesis. However, these approaches may be associated with donor‐site morbidity and psychological burden.

Acute and sudden death secondary to cardiac tamponade during anaesthetic recovery in a 21‐year‐old draught mule

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary This case report is of educational value and contributes to the literature because it describes a unique death after anaesthesia due to cardiac tamponade from a rare cardiac neoplasm. In trying to diagnose the origin of chronic sinusitis, a geriatric mule mare was anaesthetised and during recovery, died acutely.

Catheter Ablation: Evolution and Efficiencies

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The present review includes a discussion the goals and pitfalls of efficiency in the medical profession, a historical perspective on the evolution of catheter ablation in the field of electrophysiology (EP), and the data regarding the relationship between efficiency and outcomes in the EP lab. Focus on efficacy is critical to maximize resource

Prospective Trial of Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation of High Dominant Frequencies After Pulmonary Vein Isolation in Non‐Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (PAD‐AF Trial): A Multicenter, Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
In persistent AF, adjunctive dominant frequency‐guided ablation after pulmonary vein isolation did not significantly improve outcomes. Limited overlap between high‐frequency sites and low‐voltage areas suggests functional–structural dissociation, while right atrial low‐voltage burden predicts recurrence.

Bacterial pericarditis presenting as hemorrhagic pericardial effusion in a 6-year-old girl

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology, 2008
Hemorrhagic pericardial effusion is known to occur due to tuberculosis, malignancy, uremia or trauma. We present a rare case of a 6 year old girl with bacterial pericarditis who had hemorrhagic pericardial effusion with cardiac tamponade.
