The significance of the combination of two or more vascular lesions (stenoses and occlusions) causing disturbances in the cerebral circulation has long been understood. Therefore, it is not surprising that, in one fifth of the patients with internal carotid occlusion a severe stenosis can be found in the contralateral internal carotid artery.
