Tangent Cones and Quasi-Interiorly Tangent Cones to Multifunctions [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1983
R. T. Rockafellar has proved a number of rules of subdifferential calculus for nonlocally lipschitzian real-valued functions by investigating the Clarke tangent cones to the epigraphs of such functions. Following these lines we study in this paper the tangent cones to the sum and the composition of two multifunctions.

Tangent cones, starshape and convexity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1978
In the last few years various infinite dimensional extensions to Krasnoselski's Theorem on starshaped sets [14] have been made. These began with a paper by Edelstein and Keener [8] and have culminated in the papers by Borwein, Edelstein and O'Brien [3 ...

Blending Cylinders and Cones using Canal Surfaces

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2000
There is reviewed the construction of a rational blending surface between cylinders and cones in some interlocation cases. This surface is constructed as a patch of rolling ball envelope, i.e.

Cohen-Macaulayness of tangent cones [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1999
We give a criterion for checking the Cohen-Macaulayness of the tangent cone of a monomial curve by using the Gröbner basis. For a family of monomial curves, we give the full description of the defining ideal of the curve and its tangent cone at the origin.

Algebraic Tangent Cones of Reflexive Sheaves [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Mathematics Research Notices, 2018
Abstract We study the notion of algebraic tangent cones at singularities of reflexive sheaves. These correspond to extensions of reflexive sheaves across a negative divisor. We show the existence of optimal extensions in a constructive manner, and we prove the uniqueness in a suitable sense.

Vector subdifferentials and tangent cones

open access: yesJournal of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory, 2005
Following the Rockafellar's definition for the subdifferential of a real map we define a vector subdifferential using the normal cone to the epigraph of the function.

An Evaluation of Ramp Control Signal Head Placement Based on Motorist's Cone of Visions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Transportation Science and Technology, 2014
Roadside mounted ramp control signals have one upper head, and one lower head in California. The upper head is intended for use by the approaching motorists, while the lower one for use by the stopped motorists.

Median shapes

open access: yesJournal of Computational Geometry, 2019
We introduce and begin to explore the mean and median of finite sets of shapes represented as integral currents. The median can be computed efficiently in practice, and we focus most of our theoretical and computational attention on medians.

Explicit Free Resolutions of Tangent Cones in Affine 4-Space

open access: yesCumhuriyet Science Journal
This paper is devoted to the study of minimal free resolutions of tangent cones associated with complete intersection monomial curves in affine 4-space. By applying the gluing technique for numerical semigroups, we characterize specific families of these

Around the Tangent Cone Theorem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A cornerstone of the theory of cohomology jump loci is the Tangent Cone theorem, which relates the behavior around the origin of the characteristic and resonance varieties of a space. We revisit this theorem, in both the algebraic setting provided by cdga models, and in the topological setting provided by fundamental groups and cohomology rings.
