Analysis of Young's modulus for Carboniferous sedimentary rocks and its relationship with uniaxial compressive strength using different methods of modulus determination

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Mining, 2018
Young’s modulus (E) is one of the basic geomechanical parameters used in rock engineering in practice. It is determined based on uniaxial compressive test (UCS).

Required coefficient of friction in the anteroposterior and mediolateral direction during turning at different walking speeds. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
This study investigated the required coefficient of friction (RCOF) and the tangent of center of mass (COM)-center of pressure (COP) angle in the mediolateral (ML) and anteroposterior (AP) directions during turning at different walking speeds.

Embedded minimal and constant mean curvature annulus touching spheres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We show that a compact embedded minimal or constant mean curvature annulus with non-vanishing Gaussian curvature which is tangent to two spheres of same radius or tangent to a sphere and meeting a plane in constant contact angle is rotational.Comment: 10

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

On the Maslov class rigidity for coisotropic submanifolds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We define the Maslov index of a loop tangent to the characteristic foliation of a coisotropic submanifold as the mean Conley--Zehnder index of a path in the group of linear symplectic transformations, incorporating the "rotation" of the tangent space of ...

A Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Block Diagram of the Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller. ABSTRACT This article introduces a discrete‐time robust adaptive one‐sample‐ahead preview super‐twisting sliding mode controller. A stability analysis of the controller by Lyapunov criteria is developed to demonstrate its robustness in handling both ...

Horizontal Visibility graphs generated by type-I intermittency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The type-I intermittency route to (or out of) chaos is investigated within the Horizontal Visibility graph theory. For that purpose, we address the trajectories generated by unimodal maps close to an inverse tangent bifurcation and construct, according ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Relating high dimensional stochastic complex systems to low-dimensional intermittency

open access: yes, 2017
We evaluate the implication and outlook of an unanticipated simplification in the macroscopic behavior of two high-dimensional sto-chastic models: the Replicator Model with Mutations and the Tangled Nature Model (TaNa) of evolutionary ecology.
