Buckling Behavior Above the Tangent Modulus Load

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1961
Inelastic buckling behavior of concentrically loaded strut having reduced rectangular cross section as mid-section; buckling model is similar to that originally used by F.R.Shanley, but in present model, solid rectangular cross section is introduced which permits detailed exploration of stress distribution across section; influence of slight ...

Tangent modulus tensor in plasticity under finite strain

Acta Mechanica, 1999
The paper revisits the central role and properties of the notion of tangent modulus tensor in finite-strain elastoplasticity. Here, in the current configuration of continuum mechanics, a compact expression for this tensor is derived for materials experiencing finite strain due to plastic flow, starting from yield and flow relations referred to the ...

Influence of Short-Term Orthokeratology to Corneal Tangent Modulus: A Randomized Study

Current Eye Research, 2017
Influence of orthokeratology on corneal biomechanics is equivocal using Ocular Response Analyzer, ORA. Implementing indentation method, corneal tangent modulus was measured and monitored in short-term orthokeratology.Sixteen young subjects with refractive errors between -4D to -5D sphere and astigmatism within -1.50D were recruited.

The Effect of Temperature on the Tangent Modulus of Granular Composite Sport Surfaces

Experimental Techniques, 2012
A series of tests were conducted to determine the tangent modulus (vertical stiffness) values for a wax-coated granular composite material. This material is commonly used as the surface for Thoroughbred horse racetracks. The tangent modulus is important in the vertical loading of the surface by the hoof for a highly nonlinear material.

Tangent modulus tensors for elastic-viscoplastic solids

Computers & Structures, 1990
Summary: Two different time integration schemes widely used in solving elastic- viscoplastic problems are compared. Theoretical and numerical comparisons of one-step time integration schemes applied for the viscoplastic strain rate tensor and the effective viscoplastic strain rate are given, and a new method for the calculation of the effective ...

Fully implicit integration and consistent tangent modulus in elasto‐plasticity

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1993
AbstractThis paper deals with the numerical integration of a class of rate‐independent elasto‐plastic models. The backward Euler scheme is used to integrate the rate constitutive relations. The non‐linear equations obtained are solved by the Newton method. The consistent tangent modulus is obtained by exact linearization of the algorithm.

Return-Mapping and Consistent Tangent Modulus Tensor

2014
Constitutive equations of irreversible deformation, e.g. elastoplastic, viscoelastic and viscoplastic deformations are described in rate forms in which the stress rate and the strain rate are related to each other through the tangent modulus. Therefore, numerical calculations are executed in their incremental forms by the input of load (stress ...
