Noninvasive Measurement of Scleral Stiffness and Tangent Modulus in Porcine Eyes

We investigated an indentation technique to measure the scleral stiffness and tangent modulus of porcine eyes.The scleral load-displacement responses were measured with a universal testing machine as a function of IOP in 15 porcine eyes ex vivo using a 5-mm diameter cylindrical flat-punch indenter.

Strain‐Activated Mechanical Metamaterial With Programmable Dual‐Phase Stiffness and Enhanced Energy Absorption

A strain‐activated mechanical metamaterial is developed to achieve programmable dual‐phase stiffness through an intrinsic geometric locking mechanism. Finite element modeling and parametric analysis identify the key design parameters governing activation strain, stiffness transition, and energy absorption.

Continuum Mechanics Modeling of Flexible Spring Joints in Surgical Robots

A new mechanical model of a tendon‐actuated helical extension spring joint in surgical robots is built using Cosserat rod theory. The model can implicitly handle the unknown contacts between adjacent coils and numerically predict spring shapes from straight to significantly bent under actuation forces.
