When Tangent Plane = Limit of Secant Plane

open access: yes
For function of one variable, differentiability is equivalent to the existence of tangent line as the limit of secant line. The genuine counterpart of this equivalence for function of several variables is obtained for the first time.

ChicGrasp: Imitation‐Learning‐Based Customized Dual‐Jaw Gripper Control for Manipulation of Delicate, Irregular Bio‐Products

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Automated poultry processing lines still rely on humans to lift slippery, easily bruised carcasses onto a shackle conveyor. Deformability, anatomical variance, and hygiene rules make conventional suction and scripted motions unreliable. We present ChicGrasp, an end‐to‐end hardware‐software co‐designed imitation learning framework, to offer a ...

Efficient and Robust Standing Postures of Quadruped Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A calibrated static framework estimates load, optimizes torques, and adapts posture so quadruped robots stand efficiently and robustly under external payloads, achieving up to 50% lower torque demand. Inspired by the natural posture adjustments of animals under external loading, this article presents an optimization‐based framework for minimizing joint

Benchmarking of the plane-to-plane metric

open access: yes
In this report we benchmark the plane-to-plane objective quality metric. This is, a metric that measures the angular similarity of tangent planes between two point cloud models and relies on normal vectors that are carried with associated pairs of points.

Iterative solution and preconditioning for the tangent plane scheme in computational micromagnetics

open access: yes, 2018
The tangent plane scheme is a time-marching scheme for the numerical solution of the nonlinear parabolic Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation (LLG), which describes the time evolution of ferromagnetic configurations.

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Physical Origin of Temperature Induced Activation Energy Switching in Electrically Conductive Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The temperature‐induced Arrhenius activation energy switching phenomenon of electrical conduction in electrically conductive cement originates from structural degradation within the biphasic ionic‐electronic conduction architecture and shows percolation‐governed characteristics: pore network opening dominates the low‐percolation regime with downward ...

Simplified limit load estimation using mα-tangent method for branch pipe junctions under internal pressure and in-plane bending

open access: yes, 2016
The mα-tangent method is a simple way to estimate limit load for mechanical components. The method is based on a linear elastic finite element analysis to estimate the limit loads. Present work reports limit loads for branch pipe junctions under internal
