Waveguide Photoactuators: Materials, Fabrication, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Waveguide photoactuators convert guided light into mechanical motion. Their tethered‐flexible design enables minimally invasive surgery and confined‐space robotics. This review aims to guide materials selection, device design, and system integration, accelerating the transition of waveguide photoactuators from laboratory prototypes to versatile ...

Tapered Roller Bearing Accelerated Life Test Rig Design and Fabrication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
L10 bearing fatigue life testing is a costly and prolonged process, as the bearing is characteristically designed for durability and reliability. Within the current testing methods, faulty materials still have the potential of passing the test.

A Study on Rolling Element Skew Measurement in a Tapered Roller Bearing With a Specialized Capacitance Probe

open access: yes, 1999
This paper reports on roller skew in tapered roller bearings. The roller skewing of a tapered roller bearing is experimentally measured with a specialized capacitance probe (Kelvin contact potential difference, CPD, probe). The probe measures the electro-

Technical Feasibility Study of Autonomous Field Robot‐Based on‐the‐go Assessment of Soil Nutrients Using Ion‐Sensitive Field‐Effect Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Autonomous field robots equipped with ISFET‐based sensors enable rapid, spatially resolved soil nutrient analysis directly in the field. An automated system based on the BoniRob platform is presented for standardized on‐site extraction and measurement of key macronutrients and soil pH.

A three-dimensional numerical comparison of bearing capacity and settlement of tapered and under-reamed piles

open access: yes, 2019
Tapered piles by top cross sections larger than the toe cross sections and under-reamed piles by having one or more bulbs, have the potential for substantial major sides over conventional straight-sided piles.

Stiffness‐Programmable Origami Robots With Tendon‐Driven Actuation via Multimaterial 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Motion diversity is achieved in a tendon‐driven origami robot through programmable stiffness rather than modified actuation. Multimaterial 3D printing embeds soft creases, modular inserts redirect identical tendon inputs into distinct behaviors, and variable‐stiffness inserts enable real‐time switching.

Transient Vibration Prediction for Rotors on Ball Bearings Using Load-Dependent Nonlinear Bearing Stiffness

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2004
Rolling-element bearing forces vary nonlinearly with bearing deflection. Thus an accurate rotordynamic transient analysis requires bearing forces to be determined at each step of the transient solution.
