Integrating environmental DNA, diving surveys and DNA barcoding to track endangered twaite shad (Alosa fallax) spawning sites

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The twaite shad (A. fallax), an anadromous fish species belonging to the Clupeidae family, has experienced population declines throughout Europe. This decline is attributable to a range of anthropogenic pressures, including migration barriers, environmental pollution, habitat degradation, predation by invasive species and unsustainable fishing

Genomic variation drives plant flavor diversification

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explains how genomic variation shapes plant flavor by altering the biosynthetic and regulatory pathways of key attributes like sweetness, acidity, bitterness, piquancy, astringency, and aroma. It also discusses how multi‐omics, AI‐assisted breeding, and gene editing can translate this knowledge into plants with improved flavor, nutrition ...

Entangled Foodways and Livelihood Pathways: Cinnamon, State Interventions, and Everyday Life in Hmong Communities of Northern Vietnam

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The agroecological practices of ethnic minority farmers in Vietnam's northern uplands are being reshaped by intersecting pressures of land‐use reform, market integration, and state‐backed crop promotion. Among Hmong communities in the south of Lào Cai Province (former Yên Bái Province) cinnamon was once valued primarily for its medicinal ...

How Institutions Shape the Effects of Agricultural Cooperatives on Their Members

open access: yesKyklos, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Agricultural cooperatives represent a promising way of improving the quality of life of half a billion smallholders, who account for the vast majority of the world's food production. Yet, little is known about the institutional factors that explain the potential benefits of being a member of a cooperative.

Unusual Giant Sialocyst Arising From Wharton's Duct: A Case Report

open access: yesOral Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Head and neck masses in adults are a common reason for referral to maxillofacial surgeons and otolaryngologists, and most are benign. True salivary duct cysts (sialocysts) are extremely rare, accounting for < 1% of salivary duct lesions, and primarily involve minor salivary glands. Involvement of major salivary glands is exceptional,

Bioremediation of Olive Mill Wastewater Using Free and Immobilized Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Efficiency and Phytotoxicity Assessment

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract compares the bioremediation performance of olive mill wastewater using P. aeruginosa immobilized in agar beads and fixed on activated carbon. Both systems effectively reduced chemical oxygen demand (COD), phenols, colour, phosphorus and lipids.
