Assessing the Performance of Biopolymers as Substrates for Flexible Printed Supercapacitors Containing Liquid Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
The fossil‐based substrates of a printed supercapacitor containing liquid electrolytes can only be replaced with biopolymers if they have adequate permeabilities. This article studies three biopolymers based on their processability, printability, and barrier properties to find a more sustainable substrate option.

Spatial Segregation and Trophic Niche Divergence in Two Disjunct Populations of Wedge‐Tailed Shearwater Ardenna pacifica in Eastern Australia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study investigated habitat use and trophic niche differentiation in two wedge‐tailed shearwater populations in eastern Australia (2015 to 2019). Temperate birds foraged mainly in southeastern Australian waters and undertook a pre‐staging detour towards the subtropical frontal zone before migration, whereas subtropical birds foraged further east ...

A Hybrid Machine Learning Framework to Improve Morphological Trait Recovery in Avian Datasets

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Our hybrid models integrating local pattern recognition, nonlinear mapping, and adaptive optimization are anticipated to elevate the accuracy of the imputation while preserving the distinctiveness of biological datasets, thus providing a more reliable foundation for ecological and evolutionary research.

New Species of Babinskaiidae (Insecta: Neuroptera) From the Mid‐Cretaceous of Myanmar and the Morphological Divergence of the Family Across the Cretaceous

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Two new species of Babinskaiidae are reported from the mid‐Cretaceous of Myanmar and the morphological divergence of the family across the Cretaceous is quantified. The Babinskaiidae assemblages from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation and the Upper Cretaceous Kachin amber are separated by a pronounced morphological divergence in both overall size and

Functional distinctiveness and rarity highlight climate vulnerability of mountain birds

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract The loss of both functionally distinct and geographically restricted (i.e., rare) species can limit the capacity of ecological communities to respond to ongoing environmental changes. Mountains, which harbor high biodiversity and unique species, are particularly vulnerable to rapidly shifting climate conditions and remain understudied compared

Age‐related changes of oxidative status and immune function in a long‐lived seabird

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 2, March 2026.
Experimental studies in humans and laboratory species have shown that the decline of the immune system with age (immunosenescence) and the accumulation of oxidative damage to macromolecules are two key contributors to the onset and progression of the ageing process. Although laboratory models have provided important insights, the physiological basis of

Inter‐ and intra‐individual variation in the feather coloration of American crows

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 2, March 2026.
Avian feathers are remarkably diverse in both form and function. Coloration is among the most studied feature of feathers, but we know relatively little about melanin‐based black coloration. Despite many crows (Corvus sp.) and other corvids having black feathers that appear uniform to human perception, their feather coloration could play an important ...
