Task-based learning for pronunciation
International Conference on Computers in Education, 2002. Proceedings., 2003The aim of this paper is to create a task-based model for L2 learners to reach native-like pronunciation using technology. The model is based on three major principles. Firstly, language-learning system is that it needs to give learners an opportunity to make sense for themselves. Secondly, build the modified 3Ms (meaning, making, mechanisms), (Lian, A.

Learning temporal structure for task based control
Image and Vision Computing, 2008We present an extension for variable length Markov models (VLMMs) to allow for modelling of continuous input data and show that the generative properties of these VLMMs are a powerful tool for dealing with real world tracking issues. We explore methods for addressing the temporal correspondence problem in the context of a practical hand tracker, which ...

Task-based programming learning in higher education
2015 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON), 2015The task-based language learning (TBLL) approach is used in the context of foreign language pedagogy. Since a programming language is also a language by definition, this emerges the question whether the approach can also be used for learning programming.

Task-Based Neuromodulation Architecture for Lifelong Learning
20th International Symposium on Quality Electronic Design (ISQED), 2019The conventional supervised deep learning frameworks for image classification focus on finding the minimizer of an objective function. However, for a lifelong learning system, a network has to be able to dynamically learn new tasks from very few examples.

Task-based learning environments in a virtual university
Computer Networks and ISDN Systems, 1998This paper outlines three task-based learning environments that have been created on the Web to support task-based learning and encourage students to develop and apply their skills and knowledge. These environments are supported by Clyde Virtual University, an initiative sponsored by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council since 1995.

2014
In this introduction we provide an overview of the intended contribution of the volume to TBLT theory and research. It starts from the perspective that TBLT-oriented theoretical framing and explicitly theorized empirical research endeavours have, in general, taken oral communication as their main focus.

Dynamic Guidance for Task-Based Exploratory Learning
2011This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of a new system to guide exploratory learning in arbitrary task-based domains. The system employs a knowledge representation borrowed from the field of automated planning to represent both the exploratory environment and the student's model of the tasks in the environment.

TASK-BASED LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TEACHING
Studies in Second Language Acquisition, 2004TASK-BASED LANGUAGE LEARNING AND TEACHING. Rod Ellis. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2003. Pp. x + 387. $24.95 paper. This book is part of the Oxford University Press series in Applied Linguistics. In the preface, Ellis explains that his goal was to produce a book that “attempts to examine ‘task’ from a variety of perspectives,” noting he was

A Framework for Task-Based Learning and Teaching
This new edition builds on Jane Willis’s classic textbook to reflect the changing needs and priorities of language teachers in today’s classrooms. The book has been revised and expanded to reflect the widespread use of technology and the internet in language classrooms, as well as recent debates and developments in research on language learning.Jane Willis, Paul Leeming, Justin Harris

Task-Based Learning and Teaching in Egypt
2019This chapter describes the processes, experience and evaluation of a curriculum innovation that was designed and implemented in the continuing education English language programme at the American University in Cairo. A task-based learning (TBL) and teaching approach was introduced, eliminating textbooks and replacing them with digital learning ...
