P300 and anticipated task difficulty

International Journal of Psychophysiology, 1987
Recently, it has been shown that P300 measures depend on stimulus evaluation processes. This paper explores the effect of messages informing about the degree of difficulty of subsequent tasks on the P300 component. Ten healthy volunteers were asked to solve mental arithmetic tasks of graduated difficulty.

Blink Activity and Task Difficulty

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1993
This study investigated the relationship between task difficulty and blink activity, which includes blink rate, blink amplitude, and blink duration. Two kinds of tasks established two levels of difficulty. In Exp. 1, a mental arithmetic task was used to examine the relationship.

TASK DIFFICULTY AND TASK PERFORMANCE IN AUTISTIC CHILDREN

Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 1979
SUMMARY The study was designed to examine the effects on the performance of autistic children of varying the cognitive demands being made upon the children. The Board Form of the Raven Coloured Progressive Matrices was administered to 30 children and then, if necessary, either a range of easier, “matrices‐type” problems, or the more ...

Redintegration, task difficulty, and immediate serial recall tasks.

Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology / Revue canadienne de psychologie expérimentale, 2015
While current theoretical models remain somewhat inconclusive in their explanation of short-term memory (STM), many theories suggest at least a contribution of long-term memory (LTM) to the short-term system. A number of researchers refer to this process as redintegration (e.g., Schweickert, 1993).

Perception of Task Difficulty

Proceedings of the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting, 1977
Twenty male subjects were shown the operation of a rotor-pursuit apparatus under two states of three different task conditions; rotor speed, target shape, and hand used. Pre and post-performance estimates of task difficulty were obtained. The results indicated that subjects had trouble in estimating the relative affects of as few as three different ...

A task difficulty—G stress experiment

Ergonomics, 1984
This paper describes a study of methods to design manual tracking tasks. These tasks are to be used to help investigate performance changes as humans are subjected to G acceleration stress. The design of the tasks had to meet two criteria. First, the tasks were required to differ from one another in terms of subjective difficulty (as well as showing a ...

Difficulty of everyday tasks

Nursing Older People, 2009
An increasing number of everyday objects, such as cash machines, train ticket vending machines and central heating thermostats, require their users to deal with information technology. This study examined the effect that normal cognitive changes as people age might have on the use of such technology.

Automation, Task Difficulty, and Aircrew Performance

Military Psychology, 1998
The effects of an automated system on team processes and performance were assessed in a laboratory simulation. Two-person crews were required to fly a complex emergency-response scenario under conditions of low and high workload. These flights were completed with or without the aid of an autopilot. The results indicated that the autopilot was effective

Attention, task difficulty, and ADHD

British Journal of Developmental Psychology, 2005
Comments on analysis of attention tasks in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) provided by points out that whereas many regulatory functions, including alertness or arousal, appear to be impaired in ADHD, demonstrating basic attention deficits in selection or orienting functions in the disorder has proven difficult.

Tendon Reflex Amplitude with Increasing Task Difficulty

Ergonomics, 1973
The amplitude of the Achilles tendon (T) reflex has been studied during a two-choice serial reaction task with increasing difficulty. With increase of the task difficulty an increase of the T reflex has been found. The result is interpreted as the resultant of two processes: increasing arousal caused by the changing task and decreasing arousal due to ...
