Étale Steenrod operations and the Artin–Tate pairing [PDF]

open access: yesCompositio Mathematica, 2020
We prove a 1966 conjecture of Tate concerning the Artin–Tate pairing on the Brauer group of a surface over a finite field, which is the analog of the Cassels–Tate pairing. Tate asked if this pairing is always alternating and we find an affirmative answer, which is somewhat surprising in view of the work of Poonen–Stoll on the Cassels–Tate pairing.

The geometric interpretation of the Tate pairing and its applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
While the Weil pairing is geometric, the Tate pairing is arithmetic: its value depends on the base field considered. Nevertheless, the étale topology allows to interpret the Galois action in a geometric manner.

Abelian variety with Tate-Shafarevich group of non-square order [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Every abelian variety has an associated Tate-Shafarevich group defined using cohomology. Cassels and Tate proved the existence of a pairing on this group.

An Efficient Hardware Implementation of the Tate Pairing in Characteristic Three [PDF]

open access: yesThird International Conference on Systems (icons 2008), 2008
DL systems with bilinear structure recently became an important base for cryptographic protocols such as identity-based encryption (IBE). Since the main computational task is the evaluation of the bilinear pairings over elliptic curves, known to be prohibitively expensive, efficient implementations are required to render them applicable in real life ...

A Novel Multilevel Conceptual Framework for Flood Risk Governance

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Globally, flood risk is increasing as climate change progresses. Contemporary flood risk management practice often utilises hydrodynamic modelling (for hazard risk assessments), social vulnerability assessments, and risk communications in silo, which fragments evidence‐based decision‐making for effective flood risk management. We hence develop

Predicting 7‐year‐olds mental health in the perinatal period: Development and internal validation of a multivariable model using the prospective ALSPAC cohort

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Mental health difficulties in childhood are increasing. Prevention is the only sustainable and ethical public health approach. However, predicting which children are most at‐risk of mental health difficulties prior to symptoms emerging remains elusive.

Powered Tate pairing computation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper, we introduce a powered Tate pairing on a supersingular elliptic curve that has the same shortened loop as the modified Tate pairing using the eta pairing approach by Barreto et al.

Hardware Acceleration of the Tate Pairing in Characteristic Three [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Although identity based cryptography offers many functional advantages over conventional public key alternatives, the computational costs are significantly greater. The core computational task is evaluation of a bilinear map, or pairing, over elliptic curves.
