Prevalence of taurodontism in premolars

Taurodontism does not involve molar teeth exclusively. To call attention to the occurrence of this phenomenon in premolars, 4,459 extracted mandibular and maxillary premolars were examined. Eleven showed evidence of taurodontism. Roentgenograms taken from a buccolingual direction confirmed the diagnosis of taurodont teeth.

Orthopantomograms of 87 45, X females, 61 first-degree female relatives of these females, and a population sample of 113 normal females and 44 normal males were examined for the occurrence of taurodontism in mandibular molars. In the sample of 45, X females, two showed taurodont lower molars.

Taurodontism in X‐chromosome aneuploid syndromes

Two cases of X‐chromosome aneuploidy (XXY) and (XXXXY) are presented which show an alteration in molar root development known as taurodontism. It appears that the degree of taurodontism may be related to the number of X‐chromosomes present.
