THE MARRIAGE TAX AND THE RATE AND TIMING OF MARRIAGE

"The effect of the differential tax treatment of married and unmarried couples, the so-called marriage tax, on the rate and timing of [U.S.] marriages is analyzed. Using time-series data, we study the effect of the marriage tax on the fraction of unmarried women over the age of 15 years who marry in each year. We find no effect.

Swedish Tax Rates, Labor Supply, and Tax Revenues

Effective marginal tax rates on labor income for the "representative" Swede have increased from roughly 50 percent in 1959 to 80 percent today. The effects of this increase in the level of taxation are examined using a two-sector model parameterized to correspond to the Swedish economy.

Constrained Tax Competition – Empirical Effects of the Minimum Tax Rate on the Tax Rate Distribution

The paper explores the effect of a minimum tax rate on the tax policy of jurisdictions competing for investment and business location. The testing ground is the universe of local municipalities in the German federation which enjoy the autonomy to set the tax-rate of the local business tax.
