Bifurcation phenomena in nonaxisymmetric Taylor-Couette flow
Physical Review A, 1992Taylor-Couette flow subject to a nonaxisymmetric external Coriolis force is studied experimentally. The Coriolis force is induced by placing the Taylor-Couette apparatus on a turntable such that the flow is nonaxisymmetrically perturbed. This symmetry-breaking perturbation affects the entire sequence of bifurcations found in the unperturbed system.

The mixing in Taylor-Couette flow was studied with 2D laser-optical methods (Particle Image Velocimetry PIV and Laser Induced Fluorescence LIF). Mixing processes are grouped into three stages (macro-, meso- and micromixing) according to the characteristic length scale of the inhomogeneities under consideration.

Linear stability of compressible Taylor–Couette flow
Physics of Fluids A: Fluid Dynamics, 1992A temporal stability analysis of compressible Taylor–Couette flow is presented. The viscous flow studied in this paper is contained between two concentric cylinders of infinite length, which are rotating with different angular velocities and are kept at different surface temperatures.

Finite Length Taylor Couette Flow
1987Axisymmetric numerical solutions of the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations for flow between concentric rotating cylinders of finite length are obtained by a spectral collocation method. These representative results pertain to two-cell/one-cell exchange process, and are compared with recent experiments.

Symmetry and Stability in Taylor-Couette Flow
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1986The authors have studied the linear stability of Couette flow between concentric rotating cylinders. The linearized Navier-Stokes equation of 6th order has two zeros and four purely imaginary eigenvalues at a suitable value of the speed of rotation of the outer cylinder.

Taylor-Couette flow subjected to external rotation
Physical Review A, 1991We report theoretical results for Taylor-vortex flow subjected to external rotation. The system consists of an incompressible viscous fluid between two concentric cylinders with the inner one rotating about their common axis. The two cylinders also rotate together with a dimensionless angular velocity \ensuremath{\Omega} about an axis orthogonal to ...

Instability of Taylor-Couette flow of helium II
Physical Review Letters, 1991The study of Taylor-Couette flow has been useful in understanding classical fluid flows and non-linear phenomena because of its simplicity and its versatility. The Taylor-Couette system promises to be equally useful in understanding the behavior of liquid helium II, a non-classical fluid.

Finite-Dimensional Dynamics in Taylor-Couette Flow
IMA Journal of Applied Mathematics, 1991Summary: A review is presented of recent work on the effects of finite cylinder length in Taylor-Couette flow. The central aim is to focus attention on features of this classical problem which have proved to be essential to the understanding of some recently discovered finite-dimensional dynamics.
