Model of the telegraph line and its numerical solution [PDF]
This paper deals with a model of the telegraph line that consists of system of ordinary differential equations, rather than partial differential telegraph equation. Numerical solution is then based on an original mathematical method. This method uses the

On high-Taylor-number Taylor vortices
Axisymmetric steady solutions of Taylor–Couette flow at high Taylor numbers are studied numerically and theoretically. As the axial period of the solution shortens from approximately one gap length, the Nusselt number goes through two peaks before returning to laminar flow.

Jenom svět nestačí. Charles Taylor o sekularizmu
Článek se věnuje nejnovější knize Charlese Taylora Secular Age (2007). Poukazuje na její kořeny v hegeliánství a v novějších kritikách modernity a probírá některé námitky vůči Taylorově koncepci včetně Taylorových odpovědí.

Understanding identity in the thought of Charles Taylor and Dariush Shayegan [PDF]
Extended AbstractIntroduction: What is identity? Concisely, identity tells us who we are and creates a connection between the past, present, and future; and it has a meaningful characteristic. Identity is one of the centric and yet controversial concepts

Empirical risk minimization stands behind most optimization in supervised machine learning. Under this scheme, labeled data is used to approximate an expected cost (risk), and a learning algorithm updates model-defining parameters in search of an empirical risk minimizer, with the aim of thereby approximately minimizing expected cost.

Three-dimensional solutions for the geostrophic flow in the Earth's core [PDF]
In his seminal work, Taylor (1963) argued that the geophysically relevant limit for dynamo action within the outer core is one of negligibly small inertia and viscosity in the magnetohydrodynamic equations. Within this limit, he showed the existence of a

AbstractTaylor’s power law (or fluctuation scaling) states that on comparable populations, the variance of each sample is approximately proportional to a power of the mean of the population. The law has been shown to hold by empirical observations in a broad class of disciplines including demography, biology, economics, physics, and mathematics.
