Depositional History of the Namibian Mud Belt Reveals Late Holocene Weakening of the Benguela Coastal Current

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract We investigate late Holocene changes in the northern Benguela Upwelling System using a multi‐proxy approach on shallow shelf deposits from the Namibian mud belt. Three sediment cores characterized by organic carbon‐rich, anoxic, and partly gas‐bearing sediments were retrieved along a sampling transect at 23°S in August 2019.

A Detailed and Comprehensive Account of Fractional Physics‐Informed Neural Networks: From Implementation to Efficiency

open access: yesArtificial Intelligence for Engineering, Volume 2, Issue 3, Page 251-264, September 2026.
Caputo‐based fPINNs accurately solve fractional ODEs and PDEs while exposing an accuracy–cost trade‐off driven by the history‐dependent fractional derivative. Temporal collocation and shorter time windows are the most effective strategies for improving early‐time accuracy without unnecessary spatial refinement.

New Acoustic Pure P‐ and S‐Wave Equations for Modelling and Reverse Time Migration in Tilted Transversely Isotropic Media

open access: yesGeophysical Prospecting, Volume 74, Issue 7, September 2026.
ABSTRACT To reduce information loss in seismic imaging of complex geological media, it is essential to account for anisotropy, particularly in tilted transversely isotropic (TTI) formations–the most common anisotropy in exploration geophysics. However, the elastic wave equations governing such media inherently couple P$P$‐ and S$S$‐waves, whereas ...

Not all Temperature Shocks are Alike: Disentangling Heat and High Temperature Shocks and Their Effects on Inflation in Australia

open access: yesEconomic Record, Volume 102, Issue 338, Page 323-349, September 2026.
We study the effects of heat and high temperature shocks on inflation in Australia using monthly, state‐level temperature anomaly data via two stages. In the first stage, we decompose temperature anomalies into orthogonal components using a structural vector autoregression with long‐run restrictions.

Output Quality, Productivity, and Demand: Evidence from the Chinese Steel Industry

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics, Volume 57, Issue 3, Page 784-807, Autumn (Fall) 2026.
ABSTRACT Unobserved objective output quality complicates the analysis of firm productivity and demand because higher‐quality products entail higher costs but offer greater consumption benefits. Using a panel of firms with output quality data, we decompose quantity‐based productivity into fundamental productivity and the costs of quality, and separate ...
