Knowledge Distillation‐Based Zero‐Shot Learning for Process Fault Diagnosis

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Process and image data are equivalent with the teacher model pretrained on image data. Knowledge distillation transfers normal condition data to the student model. When an unknown fault occurs, differences between the teacher and student models are quantified via gradients to isolate the fault. Data‐driven deep learning is effective in diagnosing known

Untethered Autonomous Holonomic Mobile Micromanipulator for Operations in Isolated Confined Spaces

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Herein, a lightweight (515 g), compact (10 cm3), untethered holonomic mobile micromanipulator powered by piezoelectric actuators is presented. It autonomously manipulates mm to sub‐mm objects and droplets in narrow, hazardous spaces, achieving 0.18 ± 0.51 mm positioning accuracy and −0.4° ± 1.2° angular deviation.

Cloud‐Based Control System with Sensing and Actuating Textile‐Based IoT Gloves for Telerehabilitation Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Using cloud computing technology, a telerehabilitation application allows patients to perform exercises remotely. Sensor data from a textile‐based IoT glove is processed in the cloud and transmitted as exercise commands to an actuating T‐IoT glove worn by patients.

Wage arbitrage through skilled emigration: Evidence from the Pacific Islands

open access: yesAsia &the Pacific Policy Studies, Volume 9, Issue 3, Page 430-446, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Skilled workers in poor countries earn wages a fraction of that of their counterparts in rich nations. Here, we estimate the opportunities for wage arbitrage from emigration of workers from the Pacific Islands into Australia and New Zealand. Our calculations, based on wages earned by graduate accountants, computer science graduates and cooks ...

UP3: Unsupervised Predictive Path Planner for Mobile Robots in Unknown Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In this article, an unsupervised learning‐based predictive path planning framework UP3 for mobile robots is introduced. The framework employs attention‐based path optimization, control barrier functions, and a deep constraint correction module. UP3 allows the robot to use local observation to generate smooth, safe, and collision‐free path points toward
