A Trauma Support App for Young People: Co-design and Usability Study

open access: yesJMIR Formative Research
Background One of the most common reasons young people with mental health issues, such as posttraumatic stress disorder, do not seek help is stigma, which digital support tools could help address.

Friend, Not Foe: Lowered Tissue Reactivity to Long‐Term Polyimide Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The choice of optimal neural probe designs remains a major challenge in the field of neurotechnology. This study investigated the biocompatibility of several probe variations, including material, thickness, width, and implantation strategy. It highlights the clear advantage of soft polyimide probes over stiff silicon probes for better device ...

Integrating electromyography into the physiology curriculum

open access: yesAdvances in Physiology Education
Muscle physiology is included in the core curriculum in the biomedical, health, and exercise science fields. It is always challenging to understand the dynamic nature of motor unit (MU) functioning, neuromuscular activity, or muscle contractions ...

The Teaching Recovery Techniques Intervention for PTSD Among War-Affected Children: An Analysis of Potential Mediators and Moderators

open access: yes, 2013
Although a great number of different psychosocial interventions are being carried out all over the world to help children affected by posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) due to war and armed conflict, it is still to a large extent unclear by which mechanisms interventions work when they do and which interventions suit particular children best ...

Electromagnetic Radiation Stimulated Learning in Perovskite Nickelates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biological plasticity refers to the ability of synapses to strengthen or weaken over time. These adaptive properties play a fundamental role in learning and memory, spanning many orders of magnitude in timescales. Short‐term plasticity (STP) arises from rapid correlative activity, while long‐term plasticity (LTP) is governed by slower ...

Field‐Frustrated Cooperative Distortions: Suppressing Jahn‐Teller Ordering via Microwave Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microwave annealing decouples local Jahn‐Teller distortions from long‐range cooperative ordering in CuFe2O4, stabilizing a metastable cubic phase that remains locally distorted yet globally symmetry‐frustrated. Synchrotron XRD, PDF, XPS, and in situ thermal cycling reveal how non‐equilibrium MW‐phonon interactions suppress cooperative orbital‐lattice ...

Learning Moisture‐Induced Damage From Vision: Diffusion Models for Real‐Time Monitoring of Additive Manufacturing Processes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce a vision‐based real‐time monitoring system for additive manufacturing that detects subtle moisture‐induced degradation via a diffusion model‐based framework. The approach enables nondestructive assessment of moisture‐induced damage level and mechanical performance and establishes a practical route toward more intelligent, reliable, and ...

Targeting a Myeloid–Regulatory B Cell Network Reverses Immune Paralysis in Periprosthetic Joint Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Periprosthetic joint infection establishes a sophisticated immunosuppressive network between CXCR4+ PMN‐MDSCs and Bregs, inducing profound CD8+ T cell paralysis. Alendronate effectively disrupts this CXCR4+ PMN‐MDSC–Breg axis by targeting STAT3, thereby restoring local immune surveillance.
