The Effect of Size and Location of Tears in the Supraspinatus Tendon on Potential Tear Propagation
Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, 2015Rotator cuff tears are a common problem in patients over the age of 50 yr. Tear propagation is a potential contributing factor to the failure of physical therapy for treating rotator cuff tears, thus requiring surgical intervention. However, the evolution of tears within the rotator cuff is not well understood yet.

The Effect of Rotator Cuff Tear Size on Rotator Cuff Repairs
Advances in Bioengineering, 1995Abstract The repair of symptomatic rotator cuff tears (RCT) is an accepted form of treatment. Several reports have noted that the repair of larger rotator cuff tears frequently lead to poorer results. With follow up inspection of repaired large rotator cuff tears, a large percentage of these repairs may not be intact. The difficulty with

The association between body fat and rotator cuff tear: the influence on rotator cuff tear sizes
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 2014Rotator cuff tear (RCT) has a multifactorial etiology. We hypothesized that obesity may increase the risk of RCT and influence tear size.A case-control design study was used. We studied 381 consecutive patients (180 men, 201 women; mean age ± standard deviation, 65.5 ± 8.52 years; range, 43-78 years) who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Tear

This study was conducted to establish whether hypertension increases the risk of occurrence of rotator cuff tear and influences its size.A case-control design was used. We studied 408 consecutive patients (228 men, 180 women) who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Tear size was determined during surgery.

Background: Arthroscopic techniques are now considered the gold standard for treatment of most rotator cuff (RC) tears; however, no consensus exists on the maintenance of results over time, and long-term follow-up data have been reported for few cohorts ...

Shoulder arthrography for determination of size of rotator cuff tear
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 1992One hundred eight shoulder arthrograms were performed in 105 patients who subsequently underwent surgical repair of a rotator cuff tear. Eighty-seven were single-contrast arthrograms and 21 were double-contrast studies; three or more views were used for all shoulders.

Smoking is an important risk factor for the development of rotator cuff tears. We hypothesized that smoking may also influence rotator cuff tear size. The study included 408 patients who underwent arthroscopic repair of cuff tear. Cuff tears were classified during surgery.

Arthroscopic knotless repair: an effective technique for small‐sized supraspinatus tendon tears
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, 2020AbstractPurposeThe purpose was to evaluate the clinical and radiological results of knotless repair with flat‐braided suture in full small‐sized supraspinatus tendon tears (< 1 cm).MethodsA consecutive series of 54 patients with isolated small supraspinatus tendon tear (< 1 cm and Goutallier index < 2) was evaluated in the study.

Sleep quality and disturbances in patients with different-sized rotator cuff tear
MUSCULOSKELETAL SURGERY, 2016The literature is unanimous in saying that shoulder pain, due to rotator cuff tear (RCT), may be mostly at night; to our knowledge, this statement is not supported by scientific evidence. Our aim was to investigate sleep quality and disturbances in patient with RCT and in a control group.A case-control design study was used. We enrolled 324 consecutive

[Scapula dyskinesis in medium size full-thickness supraspinatus muscle tears].
Orvosi hetilap, 2023Scapular motion abnormality in rotator cuff tears is a well-known symptom, but its significance is not clear. Some authors consider it as a cause of rotator cuff tear, others as a consequence of the disease. The aim of our study was to assess the changes in scapular motion in medium size full-thickness rotator cuff tear of degenerative origin compared ...
