A clinical vignette illustrating the phenomenon is given here.

The tear film is a thin fluid film, which covers the exposed ocular surface and is essential for the health and normal function of the eye and visual system. The various components of the tear system are highly interdependent such that any abnormality in quantity or quality of the constituents can cause an imbalance in the system, leading to signs and ...

The composition and interfacial properties of tears, tear substitutes and tear models
Journal of The British Contact Lens Association, 1993Abstract A review of published data on tear composition highlights a number ofpitfalls in the information available. The different techniques used to investigate tear composition have resulted in a wide range in the concentrations quoted for individual tear proteins.

Abstract Skin-sensitizing antibody in low titer was present in the lacrimal secretion of 2 out of 7 atopic individuals whose sera showed a high skin-sensitizing antibody titer. Blocking antibody to ragweed was not found in the lacrimal secretion of one treated patient who had an elevated serum blocking antibody titer. Serum protein components found in

I walk into work thinking about her. The last time I walked through these doors, I wondered if I would ever see her again. Today, I wondered if she would be there when I walked through the halls. As I start my day, I begin to inquire about her. Is she still here? Is she still alive? How is she?

Effect of Artificial Tears on Tear Stress Test
Optometry and Vision Science, 2008To determine the effect of two artificial tears of different viscosities in the relief of environmental dry eye induced with a novel tear stress test (TST).A novel TST was developed and validated. The following four test conditions were evaluated in 12 healthy normal subjects in a cross-over and subject masked study; unprotected (no test solution used),

An extensive exploration of lacrimal fluid molecular biomarkers in understanding and diagnosing a spectrum of ocular and systemic diseases is presented. The chapter provides an overview of lacrimal fluid composition, elucidating the roles of proteins, lipids, metabolites, and nucleic acids within the tear film.
