Computed Tomographic Grading of Ear Diseases in Guinea Pigs (Cavia porcellus)

open access: yesVeterinary Radiology &Ultrasound, Volume 67, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Ear disease affecting the external and middle ears is a significant health concern in guinea pigs, which can be clinically silent and, if left untreated, can lead to severe and irreversible complications. Computed tomography (CT) is the primary imaging modality used to diagnose otitis in other species, particularly otitis media (OM).

Co‐Opting MBNL‐Dependent Alternative Splicing Cassette Exons to Control Gene Therapy in Myotonic Dystrophy

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 99, Issue 1, Page 211-222, January 2026.
Objective Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a highly variable, multisystemic genetic disorder caused by a CTG repeat expansion in the 3′ untranslated region of DMPK. Toxicity is exerted by repeat‐containing DMPK transcripts that sequester muscleblind‐like (MBNL) proteins and lead to deleterious yet predictable changes in alternative splicing.

Neuromuscular junction instability with inactivity: morphological and functional changes after 10 days of bed rest in older adults

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 2, Page 868-885, 15 January 2026.
Abstract figure legend This figure summarises the study of neuromuscular junction (NMJ) changes in 10 older males following a 10 day bed rest period. Baseline (BR0) and post‐bed rest (BR10) assessments were conducted using intramuscular EMG (iEMG) to measure NMJ transmission. At BR0 and BR10, muscle biopsies were obtained to analyse NMJ morphology, and

Symptom Profiles and Psychosocial Features in Atypical Depression: A Comparative Study

open access: yesDepression and Anxiety, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Atypical depression (AD) has been proposed to be a specific subtype of major depressive disorder (MDD) that differs to other subtypes in symptom profiles and potentially in biological and psychosocial features. Relative to other subtypes, such as melancholic MDD (MEL), AD remains underexplored, particularly concerning psychosocial factors ...
