Light Rail Cost Functions and Technical Inefficiency

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2008
Light rail operating costs vary with a system's scale of operations, traffic density, vehicle and passenger outputs, and input prices. Previous attempts at estimating these cost relationships have been hampered by inadequate data and methodologies that restrict their functional forms, limit their output measures, omit factor prices, and fail to account

Allocative Efficiency of Technically Inefficient Production Units

1999
We discuss how to measure allocative efficiency without presuming technical efficiency. This is relevant when it is easier to introduce reallocations than improvements of technical efficiency. We compare the approach to the traditional one of assuming technical efficiency before measuring allocative efficiency.

Production Risk and Technical Inefficiency in Russian Agriculture

2005
This paper aims to contribute to a better understanding of possible causes of considerable production variability that characterised Russian agriculture during the last decade. The study investigates production risk and technical inefficiency as two sources that influence production variability. Using panel data from 1996 to 2001, an empirical analysis

Some reflections on technical and allocative inefficiency modeling

Tourism Economics
This paper offers a concise overview of the existing literature on efficiency and productivity, focusing on stochastic frontier models. The emphasis is placed on technical inefficiency (TI), defined as the failure to produce the maximum output given inputs, and allocative inefficiency (AI), arising from non-optimal input utilization.

Is technical analysis able to beat market inefficiency?

2012
We started by looking into the opposing views of the market efficiency supporters and technical analysts. We then applied a simple trading rule, i.e. the crossing of two moving averages, to three equity indexes which represent the world leading equity markets: the Dow Jones Euro Stoxx for Europe, the S&P 500 for the USA and the Topix for Japan.

Economies, Inefficiences and Technical Progress in Swiss Banking

1994
Suppliers of banking services are under pressure. Changes in customer behavior, innovations in microelectronics and telecommunications, and deregulation have increased competition in banking over the past years. After a long period of easy growth, banks everywhere are experiencing difficulties in maintaining performance.

A Monte Carlo Analysis of Technical Inefficiency Predictors [PDF]

open access: possible, 1998
This paper studies performance of both point and interval predictors of technical inefficiency in the stochastic production frontier model using a Monte Carlo experiment. In point prediction we use the Jondrow et al. (1980) point predictor of technical inefficiency, while for interval prediction the Horrace and Schmidt (1996) and Hjalmarsson et al ...
