What is it like to be colour‐blind? A case study in experimental philosophy of experience

open access: yesMind &Language, Volume 37, Issue 5, Page 814-839, November 2022., 2022
What is the experience of someone who is “colour‐blind” like? This paper presents the results of a study that uses qualitative research methods to better understand the lived experience of colour blindness. Participants were asked to describe their experiences of a variety of coloured stimuli, both with and without EnChroma glasses—glasses which, the ...

High‐dimensional principal component analysis with heterogeneous missingness

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series B (Statistical Methodology), Volume 84, Issue 5, Page 2000-2031, November 2022., 2022
Abstract We study the problem of high‐dimensional Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with missing observations. In a simple, homogeneous observation model, we show that an existing observed‐proportion weighted (OPW) estimator of the leading principal components can (nearly) attain the minimax optimal rate of convergence, which exhibits an interesting ...

Absence in technicolour: protesting enforced disappearances in northern Sri Lanka

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, Volume 28, Issue S1, Page 118-134, April 2022., 2022
Abstract This essay examines the political uses of photography in the protests of the Tamil families of the disappeared in northern Sri Lanka. Enforced disappearances have long featured as an instrument of state terror. Their lingering effects have been noted as a significant challenge to transitional justice processes in the aftermath of the island's ...

String (Gravi)photons, “Dark Brane Photons”, Holography and the Hypercharge Portal

open access: yesFortschritte der Physik, Volume 69, Issue 6, June 2021., 2021
Abstract The mixing of graviphotons and dark brane photons to the Standard Model hypercharge is analyzed in full generality, in weakly‐coupled string theory. Both the direct mixing as well as effective terms that provide mixing after inclusion of SM corrections are estimated to lowest order.

Muon anomalous magnetic moment in technicolor models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment are evaluated in the technicolor model with scalars and topcolor assisted technicolor model. In the technicolor model with scalars, the additional contributions come from the loops of scalars, which ...

Top Quark Pair‐Production in Noncommutative Standard Model

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
The differential cross‐section of the top quark pair production via the quark‐antiquark annihilation subprocess in hadron collision is calculated within the noncommutative standard model. A pure NC analytical expression for the forward‐backward asymmetry at the tree level is obtained.

An introduction to technicolor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
In these lectures we present the motivation for dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking and its most popular realization, technicolor. We introduce the basic ideas of technicolor and its companion theory of flavor, extended technicolor.

The Light Composite Higgs in Strong Extended Technicolor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper extends an earlier one describing the Higgs boson $H$ as a light composite scalar in a strong extended technicolor model of electroweak symmetry breaking.

Technifermion Representations and Precision Electroweak Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We discuss the selection of fermion representations in technicolor models with a view toward minimizing technicolor contributions to the precision electroweak $S$ parameter.

125 GeV Higgs from a not so light Technicolor Scalar

open access: yes, 2013
Assuming that the observed Higgs-like resonance at the Large Hadron Collider is a technicolor isosinglet scalar (the technicolor Higgs), we argue that the standard model top-induced radiative corrections reduce its dynamical mass towards the desired ...
