Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Technology and Engineering

Annals of Science, 2005
When my home state of New Jersey deregulated its power utilities several years ago, my dad said, “Huh? How can I buy electricity from another company? It's all still the same power lines, so how can another power company send electricity to my house?” I said, “I don't know.” Maybe you know better than I did, and the answer is obvious.
