Sequencing technologies — the next generation [PDF]

open access: yesNature Reviews Genetics, 2009
Demand has never been greater for revolutionary technologies that deliver fast, inexpensive and accurate genome information. This challenge has catalysed the development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. The inexpensive production of large volumes of sequence data is the primary advantage over conventional methods.

New technologies and general practice [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of General Practice, 2016
Front-line medicine is arguably under more pressure now than it has ever been. This is at least in part due to a population living longer than ever before with an increasing number of chronic diseases. The management of these conditions is increasingly occurring in the primary and community care setting. If we are to rise to this challenge and continue

Asymmetric contests with general technologies

open access: yesEconomic Theory, 2005
We investigate the pure-strategy Nash equilibria of asymmetric, winner-take-all, imperfectly discriminating contests, focussing on existence, uniqueness and rent dissipation. When the contest success function is determined by a production function with decreasing returns for each contestant, there is a unique pure-strategy equilibrium.

Distributed Generation Technologies and Optimization

open access: yesProcedia Technology, 2014
AbstractThis paper describes the main technologies used for distributed generation and the optimization of a system that contains these technologies. The term distributed generation refers to the production of electricity near the consumption place. The distributed generation resources are renewable energies and cogeneration (simultaneous production of

The Generations of Sequencing Technologies: An Overview

open access: yes, 2020
The world has now entered into a replacement era of genomics due to the continued advancements within the next generation high throughput sequencing technologies, which incorporates sequencing by synthesis-fluorescent in place sequencing (FISSEQ), pyrosequencing, sequencing by ligation using polony amplification, supported oligonucleotide detection ...

Diffusion of General Purpose Technologies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The present paper deals with the diffusion of the General Purpose Technologies (GPT) over heterogeneous finanl-good sectors. We show that the gradual adoption of the GPT by each user sector generates a sequence of two-phased cycles, culminating in a "second wave" after all sectors adopt, they engage anew in R&D, briging about a spell of sustained ...

New Generator Technology

open access: yes, 2015
New generator technology project is driven by the need to be able to remotely deploy generator technology where it is needed, when it is needed. Both the military and aid programs that provide assistance after disasters could use the ability to deploy energy generation that fits the needs of the situation.

Wind Turbine Generator Technologies

open access: yes, 2012
Wind energy is playing a critical role in the establishment of an environmentally sustainable low carbon economy. This chapter presents an overview of wind turbine generator technolo‐ gies and compares their advantages and drawbacks used for wind energy utilization. Tradi‐ tionally, DC machines, synchronous machines and squirrel-cage induction machines
