Tectonic interpretation of the connectivity of a multiscale fracture system in limestone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper studies the statistics and tectonism of a multiscale natural fracture system in limestone. The fracture network exhibits a self‐similar characteristic with a correlation between its power law length exponent a and fractal dimension D, i.e., a ≈

Temperature‐dependent shear behavior and constitutive model of the rock–concrete interface

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Shear tests were conducted to investigate the temperature‐dependent shear behavior of the rock–concrete interface, highlighting the interaction between the surrounding rock and the lining during tunnel fires. Under experimental conditions, concrete exhibited greater temperature sensitivity than rock, with the shear fracture surface transitioning from ...

Tectonic evolution of Lavinia Planitia, Venus [PDF]

open access: yes
High resolution radar images from the Magellan spacecraft have revealed the first details of the morphology of the Lavinia Planitia region of Venus. Lavinia is a broad lowland over 2000 km across, centered at about 45 deg S latitude, 345 deg E longitude.

Present-day stress orientations and tectonic provinces of the NW Borneo collisional margin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Extent: 15p.Borehole failure observed on image and dipmeter logs from 55 petroleum wells across the NW Borneo collisional margin were used to determine maximum horizontal stress (σH) orientations; combined with seismic and outcrop data, they define seven

Shear behavior of bolt–grout interfaces under constant normal stiffness: Influence of grout strength and thickness

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The effects of grout strength and thickness on the shear behavior of bolt–grout interfaces (BGI) under constant normal stiffness conditions are investigated. Shear strength, failure modes, and acoustic emission characteristics are examined. The findings reveal that grout strength exerts a significantly greater influence on BGI shear strength and ...

Age, Depth, and Residual Depth Anomalies in the North Pacific: Implications for Thermal Models of the Lithosphere and Upper Mantle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
We present an empirical basement depth versus age relation for the North Pacific Ocean, based on the statistical treatment of an ocean-wide gridded data set.

A review on rockburst prediction and prevention to shape an ontology‐based framework for better decision‐making for underground excavations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A scientometric analysis of 2449 journal articles and a comprehensive review of 336 papers were conducted, discussing and identifying challenges and research gaps in rockburst prediction and prevention and proposing an ontology‐based framework for better decision‐making in underground excavations. Abstract With underground engineering projects becoming

The Characteristics of Aftershock Activities of Dien Bien Earthquake on 19 February 2001 and Their Relation to the Local Geomorphological, Tectonic Features

open access: yesEkológia (Bratislava), 2019
This article examines in detail the characteristics of Dien Bien earthquake on 19 February 2001 and its aftershocks. On the basis of the temporal development of aftershocks and the spatial distribution of tectonic faults, five aftershock series have been

Modeling postbreakup landscape development and denudational history across the southeast African (Drakensberg Escarpment) margin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We employ a numerical surface processes model to study the controls on postbreakup landscape development and denudational history of the southeast African margin.

Investigation on hard‐rock breaking performance and auxiliary mechanism of picks assisted with both‐sided high‐pressure water jets

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper investigates the high‐pressure water jet‐pick combined rock‐breaking mode (HPC), which employs high‐pressure water jets to precut grooves on both sides of the picks. The rock‐breaking patterns and performance of the HPC method are obtained, and the auxiliary rock‐breaking mechanism of water jet grooving is revealed.
