Structural inheritance within the outer zones of arcuate collisional orogens: A case from the Central-Northern Apennine orogenic system

open access: yesBSGF - Earth Sciences Bulletin
The evolution of fold-and-thrust systems developed at the expenses of pre-orogenic extensional basins is mainly achieved by reactivation, truncation of precursor structures, or by variable combination of these two distinct modes of propagation of ...

Terrain Synthesis and Authoring based on Iso‐Contours

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Digital terrains are central to realistic landscape depiction, yet authoring tools must balance perceptual realism with intuitive artistic control. We propose a compact vector‐based representation that models terrain as nested iso‐contours, inspired by geomorphology and cartography.

Bouguer anomalies of the NW Iberian continental margin and the adjacent abyssal plains

open access: yesJournal of Maps, 2019
The NW Iberian continental margin has a complex structure, resulting from the succession of several rifting episodes close to a ridge triple junction, and a superimposed partial tectonic inversion stage.

Objective Estimation of Spatially Variable Parameters of Epidemic Type Aftershock Sequence Model: Application to California

open access: yes, 2017
The ETAS model is widely employed to model the spatio-temporal distribution of earthquakes, generally using spatially invariant parameters. We propose an efficient method for the estimation of spatially varying parameters, using the Expectation ...

Middle to Late Miocene Contractional Deformation in Costa Rica Triggered by Plate Geodynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Contractional deformation in Costa Rica is usually attributed to the subduction of the aseismic Cocos Ridge. In this work, we review the evidences for contraction in the middle to late Miocene, prior to the arrival of the Cocos Ridge at the Middle ...

Rethinking areas of endemism and barriers: perspectives for a causal historical biogeography and a critique of Schultz and Cracraft (2024)

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Historical biogeography faces a persistent conceptual and methodological dilemma concerning the nature of its central analytical units. Using the recent proposal by Schultz and Cracraft (Cladistics 40, 653) as a catalyst, this article critiques the argument that causal inference necessitates the replacement of areas of endemism with barriers ...

Sedimentation of the Lower Cretaceous Xiagou formation and Its Response to Regional Tectonics in the Qingxi Sag, Jiuquan Basin, NW China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Under the constraint of an isochronous sequence stratigraphic framework, sediment infill of the Xiagou Formation reflects the overall control of dynamic tectonic movements and episodic sedimentations in the Qingxi Sag.

Spiders in the mosaic: How habitat heterogeneity and structure drive local spider diversity in a Mediterranean forest

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
We assessed alpha‐ and beta‐diversity patterns of spiders across different forests and across vegetation layers (ground, shrub, low canopy) at local spatial scales across various Mediterranean forest types. Across forests, alpha‐diversity increased with habitat heterogeneity, which also drove beta‐diversity patterns across plots .

The Main Pelagonian Detachment (MPD): extensional reactivation of the frontal thrust of the Internal Zones of the Hellenides (Greece)

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Géoscience
During the orogenic development of the Hellenides, the “Frontal Thrust of Internal Zones” (FTIZ) localised tectonic superposition of the Internal Zones over the External Zones.

Regional polyphase deformation of the Eastern Sierras Pampeanas (Argentina Andean foreland): strengths and weaknesses of paleostress inversion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Eastern Sierras Pampeanas of central Argentina are composed of a series of basement-cored ranges, located in the Andean foreland c. 600 km east of the Andean Cordillera.
