Tectonic stress fields in Northeast Bulgaria

open access: yesGeologica Balcanica, 1990
The reconstruction of the stress fields in Northeast Bulgaria by means of tectonic fracture patterns and physical anisotropy of rock species from the Lower Cretaceous period up to the Upper Pliocene shows that in the investigated area exists a stable trend towards a clockwise rotati on of the maximum and minimum compress ion axes.

Determining the buried depth of mountain-adjacent tunnels in hard rock under complex geostress conditions

open access: yesShuiwen dizhi gongcheng dizhi
Under complex geological and geostress conditions, the design of mountain-adjacent tunnels in hard rock areas faces numerous challenges, particularly in determining the tunnel’s buried depth.

The Effect of a Tectonic Stress Field on Coal and Gas Outbursts

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
Coal and gas outbursts have always been a serious threat to the safe and efficient mining of coal resources. Ground stress (especially the tectonic stress) has a notable effect on the occurrence and distribution of outbursts in the field practice.

Tectonic stress field characteristics in Wushi, Xinjiang, and the stress impact of the M 7.1 Wushi earthquake

open access: yesDizhi lixue xuebao
Objective  The Wushi region in Xinjiang is located at the intersection of multiple tectonic units, characterized by frequent tectonic activity, making it a critical region for stress concentration and release.

Multi-disciplinary probabilistic tectonic hazard analysis

open access: yes, 2009
Previous chapters have described how plate tectonics is the driving mechanism for tectonic hazards at the surface of the Earth. This chapter provides an overview of the methodologies being used today to quantify these hazards, describes some of the long ...

Structural evolution of the Tenggol Arch and its implication for basement fracture patterns in the Malay Basin, Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Tenggol Arch, a basement high that forms part of the western margin of the Malay Basin, offshore peninsular Malaysia. Fractured crystalline basement rocks in this area have previously

Tectonic stress controls saucer-shaped sill geometry and emplacement mechanism

open access: yes, 2020
Saucer-shaped sills are common in sedimentary basins worldwide. The saucer shape relates to asymmetric sill-tip stress distributions during intrusion caused by bending of the overburden.

Simulation of a Multi-Stage Stress Field and Regional Prediction of Structural Fractures in the Tucheng Syncline, Western Guizhou, China

open access: yesGeosciences
The prediction of structural fractures in concealed coal-bearing strata has always been a complex problem. The purpose of this study was to clarify the tectonic evolution of the study area, i.e., the Tucheng syncline, since the coal-forming period and to

Remote-sensing of tectonic-induced stress across faults using high energy muon beams

open access: yesPhysical Review Research
We illustrate a theoretical study of a technique using high-energy muon beams (TeV class) propagating through thick (kilometer-long) crystalline rock layers subject to tectonic-induced stress, potentially capable of actively monitoring the temporal ...

Estimates of vertical tectonic stress in the northwest Ethiopian plateau using topography and gravity data

open access: yesHeliyon
The northwest Ethiopian plateau is one of the globe's most complex tectonic zones. Within the area, the previous geological and geophysical investigations revealed volcanism and deformation effects but did not thoroughly examine crust movement, isostatic
