Recent tectonic stress field research in Shanxi graben system
Acta Seismologica Sinica, 1998By comprehension of earthquake focal mechanism solutions and the data of in-situ stress measurements, the tectonic stress field in Shanxi region has been summarized, which indicate that the stress state in this region is different from that of its eastern surrounding regions.

Present-day stress field and tectonic inversion in the Pannonian basin
Global and Planetary Change, 2007This paper presents a latest compilation of data on the present-day stress pattern in the Pannonian basin, and its tectonic environment, the Alpine-Dinaric orogens. Extensional formation of the basin system commenced in the early Miocene, whereas its structural reactivation, in the form of gradual basin inversion, has been taking place since Pliocene ...

Some considerations on the recent tectonic stress field of China
Tectonophysics, 1985Abstract Based on the improved hydrofracturing method, the in-situ principal stresses are determined in the north, northeast, south and the northwest of China, and the results of many fault-plane solutions, crustal deformations, geological and geophysical observations are used to discuss the distribution of subcrustal stress in space, the difference ...

Focal mechanisms and tectonic stress field of the Xinfengjiang earthquake
Acta Seismologica Sinica, 1992Altogether 83 events were recorded clearly by all the 8 sub-seismometric stations of the telemetrered seismic network in the Xinfengjiang area during the period from October 1st 1983 to April 30th 1987. Based upon the difference of the initial motion of P waves, the authors divided the 83 earthquakes into 37 pattens.

Basic characteristics of recent tectonic stress field in southwest China
Acta Seismologica Sinica, 1993Direction and structure characteristics of 58 tectonic stress tensors have been determined in 41 surveyed areas (points) in the southwestern district of China through a calculation method for inversion of tectonic stress tensors from sliding direction of faults, and, in combination with seismic mechanism solution andin-situ stress measurements, the ...

The tectonic stress field evolution of India since the Oligocene
Gondwana Research, 2015Abstract A multitude of observations suggest neotectonic deformation in and around India, but its causes and history are unknown. We use a 2 dimensional finite element model with heterogeneous elastic strengths in continental regions to model the regional stress field orientation and relative magnitudes since the Oligocene. The large-scale geological

Seismicity patterns and tectonic stress field in Montenegro
Journal of SeismologyThis study investigates Montenegro's seismic characteristics and tectonic stress distribution using the Gutenberg-Richter Law, stress inversion, and focal mechanism analysis. A dataset of 7727 earthquakes (0.8

Changes in tectonic stress field in northern Sunda Shelf basins
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1996Abstract The Tertiary basins of the northern Sunda Shelf are underlain by normal and attenuated continental crust that is characterized by moderate to high average geothermal gradients in excess of 5°C/100 m. In the Malay basin, upper Oligocene and younger sediments are more than 12 km thick; in the other basins, such sediments are between 4 ...

A short note on the inversion of tectonic stress fields
Tectonophysics, 1983Abstract Works on global and regional stress fields are briefly reviewed. Questions encountered in computing tectonic stress fields are listed as: the earth model, driving forces, distinguishing criteria and residual stress. For the linear elastic case, a scheme making use of the superposition principle and the method of least squares is described in

Recent tectonic stress field, active faults and geothermal fields (hot-water type) in China
Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 1984Abstract It is quite probable that geothermal fields of the hot-water type in China do not develop in the absence of recently active faults. Such active faults are all controlled by tectonic stress fields. Using the data of earthquake fault-plane solutions, active faults, and surface thermal manifestations, a map showing the recent tectonic stress ...
