Exploration of numerical simulation on paleo-tectonic stress field
AbstractThis paper analyzed the numerical simulation method of Paleo-tectonic stress field from three aspects: tectonic simulation target, establishment of the tectonic model, and tectonic modeling. Taking Chengzhuang coal mine of Jin city in Shanxi Province as an example, based on field investigations on macro and micro tectonic features, we ...

Improving the Knowledge on Seismogenic Sources in the Lower Tagus Valley for Seismic Hazard Purposes [PDF]
The Lower Tagus Valley, that includes the metropolitan area of Lisbon, has been struck by several earthquakes which produced significant material damage and loss of lives. Their exact location remains unknown.

Contrasting stress fields on correlating margins of the South Atlantic [PDF]
The “passiveness” of passive continental margins across the globe is currently under debate since several studies have shown that these margins may experience a variety of stress states and undergo significant vertical movement post-breakup.

The present study uses the Modified Mohr‐Coulomb true‐triaxial failure criterion (MMC_TT), which predicts the strength of rock better than the MGC criterion in laboratory true‐triaxial tests to overcome the limitations. Moreover, based on the data from previously published five vertical wells in the Krishna‐Godavari basin (K‐G basin), an empirical ...

Numerical modeling of tectonic stress field and fault activity in North China
On the basis of a 3-dimension visco-elastic finite element model of lithosphere in North China, we numerically simulate the recent mutative figures of tectonic stress field.

Stress transfer and strain rate variations during the seismic cycle [PDF]
The balance of forces implies stress transfers during the seismic cycle between the elastobrittle upper crust and the viscoelastic lower crust. This could induce observable time variations of crustal straining in the interseismic period.

Blasting effects of cross‐fault deep‐buried excavation on adjacent existing tunnel stability
Based on the theoretical analysis of cylindrical wave propagation in a deep rock mass in the fault with a filling layer, the calculation method of peak particle velocity caused by wave propagation in the existing tunnel is established. The viscoelastic characteristics of a rock mass are examined in the analysis.

Tectonic stress fields in Northeast Bulgaria
The reconstruction of the stress fields in Northeast Bulgaria by means of tectonic fracture patterns and physical anisotropy of rock species from the Lower Cretaceous period up to the Upper Pliocene shows that in the investigated area exists a stable trend towards a clockwise rotati on of the maximum and minimum compress ion axes.
