Investigating volcanic hazard in Cape Verde Islands through geophysical monitoring: network description and first results [PDF]
We describe a new geophysical network deployed in the Cape Verde Archipelago for the assessment and monitoring of volcanic hazards as well as the first results from the network. Across the archipelago, the ages of volcanic activity range from ca.

Abstract Megathrust slip behavior in subduction zones can vary along‐strike, yet the mechanisms driving this variability remain uncertain. The Middle America trench offshore Mexico provides an ideal setting to investigate the structural controls on megathrust slip behavior.

Abrupt Suppression of Tectonic Tremors Outside the Stress Shadow of Mendocino Earthquakes
Tectonic tremor is a long‐duration noise‐like seismic signal associated with slow fault motion at major plate boundaries. Due to their remarkable sensitivity to stress perturbations, tremors serve as invaluable probes of the mechanical state and stress ...

Probing Slow Earthquakes With Deep Learning
Slow earthquakes may trigger failure on neighboring locked faults that are stressed sufficiently to break, and slow slip patterns may evolve before a nearby great earthquake.

Abstract We present heat flow estimates beneath the forearc slopes off Hyuga‐nada and Cape Muroto in the Nankai Trough, where the Philippine Sea plate subducts beneath the southwestern Japan. Using seismic reflection data, we identified Bottom Simulating Reflectors and derived heat flow ranging from 20 to >140 mW/m2.

The role of velocity‐neutral creep on the modulation of tectonic tremor activity by periodic loading [PDF]
Slow slip events and associated non‐volcanic tremors are sensitive to oscillatory stress perturbations, such as those induced by tides or seismic surface waves. Slow slip events and tremors are thought to occur near the seismic‐aseismic transition regions of active faults, where the differencea − b = ∂μ/∂lnVbetween the sensitivity of friction to slip ...

Interseismic Strain Accumulation and Partitioning in Hispaniola From GNSS and InSAR
Abstract We combine GNSS and InSAR observations to constrain the spatial distribution of strain across the northeastern Caribbean plate boundary, focusing on Hispaniola, to investigate strain partitioning and fault slip rates in an actively deforming tectonic setting with significant seismic hazard.

Tectonic Tremor Explained by Successive Ruptures of Clustered Quartz‐Filled Shear Veins
A tectonic tremor is a successive seismic signal observed along plate boundaries in subduction zones. However, the source processes and mechanisms responsible for the tremor remain unclear. Quartz‐filled shear and extension veins are clustered in tens to

Abstract An intense seismic swarm started on 27 January 2025 in the Santorini‐Amorgos region and lasted for approximately 45 days. A widely observed seismic tremor on 14 February 2025 suggested a volcanic origin for the 2025 Santorini crisis. Here we present an in‐depth combined seismological analysis of the earthquakes and tremors that occurred during
