Freshwater amphibians and squamates from Villeveyrac (lower Campanian; Hérault, France): palaeodiversity, palaeoenvironment and implications for the Late Cretaceous palaeobiogeography of the European herpetofauna

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 12, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract The Late Cretaceous witnessed numerous transgression–regression sequences and the onset of a global cooling phase at the start of the Campanian. In the European archipelago, these environmental changes, combined with active plate tectonics, facilitated the formation of ephemeral land bridges that served as dispersal routes for a variety of ...

Climate Change in the Brazilian Cerrado: A Looming Threat to Terrestrial Biodiversity

open access: yesWIREs Climate Change, Volume 16, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
Due to climate change, the Brazilian Cerrado, a global biodiversity hotspot, is becoming hotter and drier, with longer and more intense dry seasons. This alters biodiversity by altering plant physiology, ecological interactions, and species distribution, creating more homogeneous and less diverse communities.

Intraspecific Variation in Dorsal Colour Patterns of Amphibolurus muricatus Lizards From the Perspective of Relevant Observers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
This study examined dorsal pattern variations across the geographic range of an Australian lizard using multispectral photography and visual models for lizards and avian predators. Findings reveal differences in dorsal colouration based on sex, body size, genetic clades and habitat type.

Revisiting concepts of thermal physiology: understanding negative feedback and set‐point in mammals, birds, and lizards

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 3, Page 1317-1346, June 2025.
Abstract The thermoregulatory system of homeothermic endotherms operates to attain thermal equilibrium, that is no net loss or gain of heat, where possible, under a thermal challenge, and not to attain a set‐point or any other target body temperature.

PHYLOGEOGRAPHY AND GENETIC STRUCTURE IN THE CNEMIDOPHORUS LONGICAUDA COMPLEX (SQUAMATA, TEIIDAE)

open access: yesHerpetologica, 2006
Cnemidophorus longicauda is a poorly-studied species of whiptail lizard distributed in the Monte Desert region of Argentina. Some variation in dorsal color pattern has been observed between northern and southern populations along the latitudinal range of the species. Recently, a new species of Cnemidophorus (C. tergolaevigatus) previously considered as

Microhabitat and adhesive toepads shape gecko limb morphology

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, Volume 20, Issue 3, Page 634-650, May 2025.
Microhabitat affects gecko limb morphology differently than expected in other lizards. Although adhesive toepads' state is phylogenetically conserved, they were acquired and lost multiple times in geckos, with an association of toepads with arboreality. Padless geckos generally have longer limbs and limb segments than pad‐bearing species.
