Identification of Dry and Rainy Periods Using Telecommunication Microwave Links

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2010
Microwave links are widely used for wireless data exchange, particularly between base stations of mobile phone networks. Because of the range of frequencies used for data transmission, the link signal is attenuated when rainfall occurs along the link path. This attenuation can be related to the path-averaged rain rate.

Telecommunication. Strategy: communication links with physicians.

Hospitals, 1990
Telecommunications vendors en masse are targeting health care as a market segment with vast, untapped potential. But hospitals are still having trouble integrating computer systems within their own walls. Are they ready to face the telecommunications challenge: utilizing long-distance telecommunication networks that would shuttle health care ...

Quality control of rain gauge measurements using telecommunication microwave links

Journal of Hydrology, 2013
Accurate rain rate measurements are essential for many hydrological applications. Although rain gauge remains the reference instrument for the measurement of rain rate, the strong spatial and temporal variability of rainfall makes it difficult to spot faulty rain gauges.

Linking to the infosphere: The telecommunications in Primary Science project

Education 3-13, 2000
This article reports on the Telecommunications in Primary Science (TIPS) project. A central aim of the TIPS project was to explore the feasibility of tackling problems associated with some primary teachers' lack of confidence and competence in the physical sciences through a computer network linking together a small number of schools and a university ...

A more efficient link-state routing algorithm for telecommunication networks

2011 IEEE International Symposium on IT in Medicine and Education, 2011
An efficient K-shortest paths routing algorithm for computer networks is presented. The Algorithm is based on enhancements to currently used link-state routing algorithms such as OSPF, which is only focusing on finding the shortest path route by Dijkstra algorithm.

Precision Clock and Time Transfer on a Wireless Telecommunication Link

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2010
Precise time dissemination is a key requirement for remote clock synchronization used in coordinated command of distributed actuators in various applications. We present a newly conceived low-cost clock system based on the time-to-digital converter (TDC) principle to generate, transfer, and compare time-coded sequences (TCSs) with nanosecond accuracy ...

Low reflectance terminations and connections for duplex fiber-optic telecommunication links

Applied Optics, 1981
The signal-to-noise ratio of full duplex fiber-optic telecommunication links using a single fiber with directional couplers is shown to be extremely sensitive to reflections from fiber end terminations and fiber-to-fiber connections. This paper will examine a series of experimental measurements made to determine the reflectance coefficients of several ...

Estimation and Linking of Ecomomic and Financial Costs in Telecommunications

1987
Many corporate structures have pro forma financial models which are used, to develop their plans and policy scenarios. GTE Service Corporation is no exception in this regard. GTE has had for some time a detailed planning model which computed all the entries in pro forma financial statements.

Scintillation Effects on Deep Space Telecommunication Links through Solar Corona

2009 5th International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing, 2009
When radio waves pass through the solar corona and solar wind regions close to the Sun, strong scintillation effects appear at their amplitude, frequency and phase, especially in the regions very close to the Sun. This paper describes the effects in solar corona, and presents a Rician statistical model of the solar scintillation channel. The simulation
