Laser Terminals on CubeSats: Developments for Telecommunications and Quantum Links

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking
ABSTRACTSatellite‐based laser communication is an emerging technology that is finding its way from research to industry. Compared to radio frequency (RF) systems, it has a more efficient size, weight, and power budget and, furthermore, is license free. The required space laser terminals can be designed in different sizes, depending on the mission needs.

The effect of variation in atmospheric absorption on millimetric, terrestrial, telecommunications links [PDF]

open access: yesRadio Science, 2005
When planning the link budget for millimeter and submillimeter wave telecommunications links, the attenuation by atmospheric gasses is taken into account. However, at millimetric frequencies above 50 GHz it may become necessary to account for the temporal variations in absorption when calculating fade margins.

Tribenzyl Organic Cations Carried Multidentate X‐Type Lewis Soft Base for High‐Performance Foldable Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes tribenzyl organic cation carried multidentate X‐type Lewis soft base to enhance adhesion and passivate defects simultaneously, aiming to achieve foldable and efficient perovskite nanocrystal‐based light‐emitting diodes. The resulting pure red F‐PeLEDs exhibit a recorded high EQE of 16.2% and robust mechanical properties to endure ...

Statistical Channel Modeling for Long-Range Ground-to-Air FSO Links [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
To provide high data rate aerial links for 5G and beyond wireless networks, the integration of free-space optical (FSO) communications and aerial platforms has been recently suggested as a practical solution. To fully reap the benefit of aerial-based FSO systems, in this paper, an analytical channel model for a long-range ground-to-air FSO link under ...

Phase- coherent comparison of two optical frequency standards over 146 km using a telecommunication fiber link [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We have explored the performance of two "dark fibers" of a commercial telecommunication fiber link for a remote comparison of optical clocks. The two fibers, linking the Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH) with the Physi-kalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig, are connected in Hanover to form a total fiber length of 146 km.
