Varied motivations for secondary forest reclearing among landholders make forest persistence challenging

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Remote sensing studies show that ephemeral forest regeneration is widespread in the tropics, limiting the climate and biodiversity benefits from net increases in forest cover. Socioeconomic, biophysical and landscape variables can help explain the spatial distribution of reforestation reversals.

Scaling from microsite to landscape to resolve litter decomposition dynamics in globally extensive drylands

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Decomposition is the transformation of dead organic matter into its inorganic constituents. In most biomes, decomposition rates can be accurately predicted with simple mathematical models, but these models have long under‐predicted decomposition in globally extensive ...

Evaluation of the causes of error in the MCD45 burned-area product for the savannas of northern South America [Evaluación de las causas de error en el producto de área quemada MCD45 para las sabanas del norte de Suramérica] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Forest fires contribute to deforestation and have been considered a significant source of CO2 emissions. There are global maps that estimate the area affected by a fire using the reflectance variation of the surface.

Perceived costs as drivers of wildlife management preferences in rural Tanzanian communities

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Effectively managing human–wildlife interactions is crucial for fostering coexistence on shared landscapes. Management options are most effective when aligned with the preferences of people directly affected by wildlife, yet little is known about how socioecological factors influence these preferences.

An efficient methodology to simulate mixed spectral signatures of land covers through Field Radiometry data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An efficient methodology to simulate mixed spectral signatures of land covers, from endmember data, using linear statistical modelling based on the least squares estimation approach, is proposed.

Linking eBird data with high spatiotemporal remote sensing products to estimate occupancy of bird populations across the island of Ireland

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
The vast increase in biodiversity data generated through citizen science initiatives, alongside a growing suite of remote sensing products and advanced modelling tools, has opened new avenues for rapidly, accurately and efficiently monitoring species trends to inform conservation, management and policy.

Revisión de las técnicas de identificación cartográfica de áreas quemadas

open access: yesRecursos Rurais, 2018
La cartografía y discriminación de áreas quemadas por incendios forestales constituye una fuente de información clave para las tareas de gestión post-incendio. La teledetección ha demostrado ser una herramienta cada vez más operativa para desempeñar este

Non‐stationary forest responses to hotter droughts: a temporal perspective considering the role of past legacies

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
Global change is altering forests worldwide, with multiple consequences for ecosystem functioning. Temporal changes in climate, and extreme, compounded weather events like hotter droughts are affecting the demography, composition and function of forests, leading to a highly uncertain future.

Teledetección ambiental: La observación de la Tierra desde el Espacio

open access: yesEntorno Geografico, 2013
La teledetección, entendida como una técnica que implica la obtención a distancia de imágenes de la superficie de la Tierra, su tratamiento e interpretación para diferentes propósitos, inicialmente estuvo ligada principalmente a la fotografía aérea.
