A combined FEG-SEM and TEM study of silicon nanodot assembly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Nanodots forming dense assembly on a substrate are difficult to characterize in terms of size, density, morphology and cristallinity. The present study shows how valuable information can be obtained by a combination of electron microscopy techniques.

Defocus correction and noise reduction using a hybrid ptychography and Centre‐of‐Mass algorithm

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, Volume 300, Issue 2, Page 167-179, November 2025.
Abstract Integrated Centre‐of‐Mass (iCOM) is a widely used phase‐contrast imaging method based on Centre‐of‐Mass (COM), which makes use of a 4D Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) dataset using an in‐focus probe. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach that combines Single‐Side Band (SSB) ptychography with COM and iCOM, termed Side ...

Proteomics-based investigation in C2C12 myoblast differentiation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2009
Skeletal muscle cell differentiation is a multistage process extensively studied over the years. Even if great improvements have been achieved in defining biological process underlying myogenesis, many molecular mechanisms need still to be clarified.

Combination treatment with recombinant methioninase enables temozolomide to arrest a BRAF V600E melanoma in a patient-derived orthotopic xenograft (PDOX) mouse model. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
An excessive requirement for methionine termed methionine dependence, appears to be a general metabolic defect in cancer. We have previously shown that cancer-cell growth can be selectively arrested by methionine deprivation such as with recombinant ...

Liposomal Ficus carica latex and ficin effects on human colon cancer cell line

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 105, Issue 10, Page 5540-5549, 15 August 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND Challenges such as metabolic instability, short half‐life, poor absorption, and low bioavailability are faced by natural drug candidates, particularly in complex plant‐derived extracts like fig latex, which contains multiple bioactive compounds that complicate standardization and encapsulation.

Sunflower oil obtained by a new device and extraction system using hydrostatic pressing

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites
This study aims to extract sunflower oil using a new hydrostatic pressing system that can operate under different pressures and extraction times. The extraction process was conducted with a press of 50,000 psi (344.74 MPa) capacity.

Microstructural modifications in tungsten induced by high flux plasma exposure : TEM examination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We have performed microstructural characterization using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques to reveal nanometric features in the sub-surface region of tungsten samples exposed to high flux, low energy deuterium plasma.

Optimized Oxidation Temperature Enhances OER Performance of IrO₂‐Loaded SnO₂ Nanofibers – Role of Charge Carrier Percolation Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 14, July 25, 2025.
Electrospun SnO₂ nanofibers decorated with ultra‐small IrO₂ nanoparticles show enhanced OER performance after oxidation at 375 °C. TEM imaging reveals that this temperature induces crystallization into interconnected conductive pathways, while lower temperatures retain an amorphous phase and higher temperatures fragment the structure.

Fine-scale analysis of biomineralized mollusc teeth using FIB and TEM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
When it comes to mineral synthesis, there is a lot we can learn from nature. Although we can synthesize a range of materials in the laboratory, the experimental conditions are often constrained to particular ranges of temperature, pH, etc.
