Effect of bio‐fertilization and edapho‐climatic conditions on chickpea nodulation, grain yields, and seed protein in a Mediterranean context: a meta‐analysis approach

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L.) serve as a protein‐rich staple, particularly in Mediterranean countries, where they are often grown in marginal and water‐stressed areas. This meta‐analysis synthesized evidence from peer‐reviewed publications across Mediterranean countries to assess how chickpea rhizobial inoculation influences chickpea ...

Decadal water balance of a temperate Scots pine forest (Pinus sylvestris L.) based on measurements and modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We examined the water balance components of an 80-year-old Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) forest stand in the Campine region of Belgium over a ten year period using five very different approaches; our methods ranged from data intensive measurements to ...

Preharvest application of antagonistic yeasts for the control of fungal pathogens in organic peach and plum orchards

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The control of fungal diseases in organic fruit production remains a major challenge due to the limited availability of authorized phytosanitary tools. This study evaluates the efficacy of two antagonistic yeasts – Metschnikowia pulcherrima L672 and Hanseniaspora uvarum L793 – in organic peach (Prunus persica) and plum (Prunus ...

Nutritional quality and calorific value of Amazonian forest litter

open access: yes, 1974
A study on the nutritional quality of litter from an Amazon terra firme forest was carried out to supplement quantitative data on litter production previously published by KLINGE and RODRIGUES (1968).

Forest Stand Structure and Primary Production in relation to Ecosystem Development, Disturbance, and Canopy Composition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Temperate forests are complex ecosystems that sequester carbon (C) in biomass. C storage is related to ecosystem-scale forest structure, changing over succession, disturbance, and with community composition.

Nutritional and reproductive dynamics of moose near their southern range limit

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Though southern moose (Alces alces) had relatively low seasonal fluctuations in body fat, their condition was positively associated with pregnancy and adult survival but did not influence recruitment of young. We demonstrated clear signs of nutritional limitation and unexpected patterns of reproductive performance that may be unique to moose living at ...

Spatial and temporal variation in survival of female wild turkeys

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We monitored 370 female wild turkeys across North Carolina's 3 ecoregions from 2020‐2022 to understand factors influencing their survival. Female survival varied by ecoregion and behavior state, with the incubation period having the lowest survival rates. None of the land cover variables affected survival.

Insights from multigene analysis: first report of a Southeast Asian Mosquito, Aedes (Mucidus) laniger (Diptera: Culicidae) on Jeju Island from Korea

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
Background Certain mosquitoes are known as dominant vectors worldwide, and transmit infectious diseases. The expansion of mosquito habitats due to climate change and increased human activities poses a significant health threat by facilitating the spread ...

Stand structure, regeneration potential and carbon storage across Moist Temperate Forest of Chopal forest division in Himachal Pradesh

open access: yesTrees, Forests and People
Himalayan moist temperate forests are one of the versatile and essential ecosystems for studying the biodiversity and carbon storage potential in Indian Himalayas. Therefore, a comprehensive assessment across eight sub-forest types (i.e.

Precision Restoration to Minimize Soil Loss in a Watershed in the Atlantic Forest Domain

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Turvo River Watershed, located in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais and part of the Doce River Basin, faces serious problems of erosion and soil degradation, which compromise and reduce the quality of local water resources. Given this scenario, it is essential to implement environmental recovery strategies that prioritize the ...
