The influence of circadian rhythms on the metabolism of the snake Bothrops jararaca (Serpentes, Viperidae) = A influência dos ritmos circadianos no metabolismo da serpente Bothrops jararaca (Serpentes, Viperidae)

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2008
The thermoregulatory activity has led to an extensive search for correlations between physiological variables, including metabolic functions, and the ideal level of body temperature.

Distribution, scale, and drivers of mass mortality events in Europe's freshwater bivalves

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Mass mortality events (MMEs) are decimating populations and compromising key ecosystem functions around the globe. One taxon particularly vulnerable to MMEs is freshwater bivalve mollusks. This group has important ecosystem engineering capacities and includes highly threatened and highly invasive taxa.

Height and phytotelm size affect the invertebrate communities of epiphytic bromeliads in the Amazon rainforest

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 2, Page 221-234, April 2026.
The height at which epiphytic bromeliads are found affects the invertebrate community composition within them. The size of epiphytic bromeliads is positively correlated with species richness of both aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates. Whether bromeliads were found in primary or secondary forest did not have a significant effect on the community of ...

Record phenological responses to climate change in three sympatric penguin species

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 3, Page 455-469, March 2026.
This paper is impressive because we managed to monitor extensively a really difficult place to reach and operate in. We deployed 77 cameras across Antarctica and the Sub Antarctic islands to monitor three different species of penguins. We found that they are the fastest advancing vertebrates with respect to their timing of breeding.

Prediction of SCA Scores in Specialty Coffee Using Machine Learning

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Coffee is a major global commodity, with specialty coffees valued for their quality, assessed through standardized sensory protocols. The SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) score is a key indicator of commercial value, but sensory evaluation is resource‐intensive and subject to variability.

open access: yesE&S Engineering and Science

Do Energetic Challenges Mimicking Missed Foraging Encourage Torpor Use by a Neotropical Bat?

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
We experimentally tested whether Merriam's long‐tongued bat (Glossophaga mutica), a Neotropical nectarivorous species, uses heterothermy in response to reduced energy intake. We found that energetically challenged bats maintained subcutaneous temperatures significantly closer to roost temperature during the daytime inactive period.

open access: yesCiencia Veterinaria

COMPARAÇÃO ENTRE A TEMPERATURA RETAL E A TEMPERATURA DA MEMBRANA TIMPÂNICA EM GATOS (Felis catus) NORMOTÉRMICOS
