Analysis of temperature glide matching of heat pumps with zeotropic working fluid mixtures for different temperature glides [PDF]
Abstract The present study demonstrates the optimization of a heat pump for an application with a large temperature glide on the sink side and a smaller temperature glide on the source side. The study includes a numerical simulation of a heat pump cycle for binary mixtures based on a list of 14 natural refrigerants.

Resolving intrinsic dislocation structure in perovskite crystals using pulsed electron beam with atomic resolution [PDF]
Plasticity is critical for processing semiconductors and ceramics and advancing flexible, deformable electronics. Perovskites like CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) and SrTiO3 exhibit remarkable room-temperature plasticity through {110} dislocations, yet their ...

The Role of Glide during Creep of Copper at Low Temperatures [PDF]
Copper canister will be used in Scandinavia for final storage of spent nuclear fuel. The copper will be exposed to temperatures of up to 100 °C. The creep mechanism at near ambient temperatures has been assumed to be glide of dislocations, but this has never been verified for copper or other materials.

A low-temperature glide cycle for pumped thermal energy storage
Pumped thermal energy storage is seen as a possible alternative to pumped-hydro schemes for storing electricity at large scale and facilitating increased integration of renewable sources. This paper presents a novel form of pumped thermal energy storage in which the thermodynamic cycle exploits the temperature glide exhibited by zeotropic mixtures. The

On low temperature glide of dissociated 〈1 1 0〉 dislocations in strontium titanate
An elastic interaction model is presented to quantify low temperature plasticity of SrTiO3 via glide of dissociated < 110 >{110} screw dislocations. Because < 110 > dislocations are dissociated, their glide, controlled by the kink-pair mechanism at T{110} glide mechanism, from simultaneous nucleation of two kink-pairs along both partials at low stress,

Several theoretical studies have predicted that refrigerant mixtures with glides of more than 20 K can yield COP improvements in heat pumps for operating conditions where the temperature difference between the heat source and heat sink is large, but ...

Laser-Treated Steel Surfaces Gliding on Snow at Different Temperatures
With the goal of substituting a hard metallic material for the soft Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) presently used to make the bases of skis for alpine skiing, we used two non-thermodynamic equilibrium surface treatments with ultra-short (7–8 ps) laser pulses to modify the surface of square plates (50 × 50 mm2) made of austenitic ...
