An ultrasonic temperature sensor is based upon the variation in the speed of propagation of a torsional wave in a material whose torsional modulus varies as a function of temperature. A transducer for producing a torsional wave is coupled through an accoustic waveguide to a sensor element which has a torsional modulus which varies with temperature.

Distributed Temperature Sensors
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1983The capabilities and technologies of a number of spatially distributed over-temperature sensors are reviewed. A new conductive polymeric sensor is described in which capacitance measurements indicate the presence and location of hot spots. Physical characteristics, operating principles, and test results are discussed.

A temperature sensor and method of temperature sensing is described. A first reference current is provided to a dual-slope ADC during a first slope time duration of a dual-slope ADC conversion cycle. A second reference current is provided to the dual-slope ADC during a second slope time duration of the dual-slope ADC conversion cycle.

The sensor has a temperature-dependent resistance element (1) e.g. positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element, arranged between two metal rods (2, 3). The metal rods are molded with a plastic body (4). The metal rods protrude from the body with respective ends.
