Bi-templated grain growth maximizing the effects of texture on piezoelectricity

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2021
Abstract Templated grain growth is beneficial for piezoelectric materials, the properties of which become the best in their single crystalline form. Nevertheless, a textured ceramic prepared by a templated grain growth technique often fails in exhibiting as good properties as expected in single crystals even with a high degree of orientation factor ...

Templated grain growth (TGG) of PMN-PT textured components using SrTiO/sub 3/ templates

14th IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics, 2004. ISAF-04. 2004, 2005
Tapes of PMN-PT containing 5 to 10 volume % of SrTiO/sub 3/ seeds were cast and subjected to heat treatments of 1250/spl deg/C in either air or oxygen atmospheres for 10 hours in order to texture the samples and enhance the (h00) peaks of PMN-PT. Lead-based additives such as lead oxide (PbO) and lead carbonate (PbCO/sub 3/) were introduced to create a ...

Development of highly textured piezoelectric ceramics via templated grain growth

ISAF 2000. Proceedings of the 2000 12th IEEE International Symposium on Applications of Ferroelectrics (IEEE Cat. No.00CH37076), 2002
Textured polycrystalline piezoelectric materials are expected to provide improved properties compared to untextured ceramics, and low processing costs compared to single crystals. NexTech Materials is developing textured polycrystalline piezoelectric ceramics via Templated Grain Growth (TGG).

Reaction-based Processing of Textured Alumina by Templated Grain Growth

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 1999
Highly textured, dense alumina ceramics were fabricated by a new processing route which utilizes a mixture of Al metal powder, alumina powder, alumina platelet (template) particles and a liquid phase former. The process involves dry forming the powder mixture (e.g. uniaxial pressing, and roll compaction) to align the plate-like template particles.

Processing of Textured Ceramics by Templated Grain Growth

1998
Over the last twenty years, the processing community has concentrated on preparing finegrained, equiaxed ceramic microstructures. For many systems, it is now routine to accomplish this objective and the related microstructure-property goals. More recently, it is apparent that there is a potentially large number of interesting microstructure-property ...

Textured α-Alumina through Electrophoretic Deposition and Templated Grain Growth

Key Engineering Materials, 2009
The development of texture was studied during electrophoretic deposition in alumina suspensions containing plate shaped alumina particles. The mechanism of platelet orientation during EPD was examined with respect to the influence of the electric field, gravity and hydrodynamic forces.

Templated grain growth of SrBi2Ta2O9 ceramics: Mechanism of texture development

Materials Research Bulletin, 2008
Abstract Textured SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT) ceramics were fabricated via templated grain growth (TGG) technique using platelet-like SBT single crystal templates. The templates (5 wt%) were embedded in a fine-grain SBT powder matrix containing 3 wt% of Bi2O3 excess that were subjected to uniaxial pressing and sintering at 1000–1250 °C for up to 24 h ...

Processing of textured zinc oxide varistors via templated grain growth

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2005
Abstract Textured, dense zinc oxide varistors were successfully fabricated by Templated Grain Growth (TGG) technique. Rod-like, anisotropic ZnO particles (templates) were synthesized by homogeneous precipitation method. The templates are aligned in such a position where c-axes of the templates are parallel to the tape casting direction during the ...

Critical Factors in the Templated Grain Growth of Textured Reaction‐Bonded Alumina

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2000
The Templated Grain Growth (TGG) of Al 2 O 3 occurs in three stages: densification, radial growth of individual template grains until template impingement, and template grain thickening. Significant template growth occurs only after densification to ∼90%
