A prospective study of electrophysiological and behavioural measures of cognitive function in patients with epilepsy

open access: yes, 2004
PhDAims: The aim of this thesis was firstly, to prospectively examine cognitive function in relation to epilepsy, with event-related potential (ERP) and neuropsychological assessments, over a one year period.

Ranking of antiseizure medications in a panel of focal seizure models predicts their comparative efficacy in clinical add‐on trials in drug‐resistant focal epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Most antiseizure medications (ASMs) have been discovered by testing in animal models, which are generally thought to predict antiseizure activity in patients. However, it is not known whether any of these models (or a combination of models) can predict whether a novel ASM exhibits higher clinical efficacy in focal drug‐resistant ...

EEG–fMRI mapping of asymmetrical delta activity in a patient with refractory epilepsy is concordant with the epileptogenic region determined by intracranial EEG

open access: yes, 2006
We studied a patient with refractory focal epilepsy using continuous EEG-correlated fMRI. Seizures were characterized by head turning to the left and clonic jerking of the left arm, suggesting a right frontal epileptogenic region.

Deep brain stimulation of the thalamus for intractable epilepsy (FRANCE study): A randomized clinical trial

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy and safety of deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the anterior nucleus of the thalamus (ANT) compared with best medical treatment (BMT) in patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE).

Altered expression of the voltage-gated calcium channel subunit α2δ-1: a comparison between two experimental models of epilepsy and a sensory nerve ligation model of neuropathic pain.

open access: yes, 2014
The auxiliary α2δ-1 subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels is up-regulated in dorsal root ganglion neurons following peripheral somatosensory nerve damage, in several animal models of neuropathic pain.

Intracranial electroencephalographic approaches in the intensive care unit: Safety, feasibility, and coverage

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Nonconvulsive epileptic activity is common after acute brain injury and contributes to neuronal injury and poor outcomes. Although intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) improves detection compared with surface EEG (suEEG), it currently relies on focal recordings of epileptic dynamics.
